Never found those either, in any library.

If I had another life I'd reprint them all with new translations.

Just my luck

my only experience in that field is going around in flea markets and every now and then get lucky and find some book i looked for by couldn't find.

it happened a lot of times but of course you cannot decide what you're going to find, if you're going to find something.

 No.7139

This not what you wanted to hear, OP. No joy on the books.

I did want to chime in to say I joined the search.

I tooled through the usual suspects for ebook editions, plus made the rounds of the used book market. There may have been a PDF floating around in the past, but no more. Score one for the lawyers. As for the used book sellers, other than acknowledging it exists, no one has a physical copy.

The publisher of one, Columbia University Press, can't even match the ISBN with their own database search of publications! Weird.

I … think … this needs an old school approach.

I'm not promising anything. At best my next effort will take a few weeks. If I fail completely I will post here so you are not left hanging. Do me a favor though, if you locate what you are looking for in the meanwhile, tell us here. That way I can cut my losses.

Otherwise … interesting challenge, etc.

Pretty much this. If you see second hand books for sale you scour it. I managed to find an old soft cover Penguin edition of The Marble Cliffs that way. Also found The Glass Bees in the same shop. You just have to be persistent

Well, the Paris Diaries (Michael J. Hulse translation) has it's own Goodreads entry:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6847676-the-paris-diaries-1941-1944

If it's any help, I'm pretty sure the German title is Strahlungen (Radiations in English). Being put on a blacklist for publishers after the war, he ended up publishing it four years later in 1949. The Allies classified Juenger as a "person non grata" for refusing de-Nazification procedures (even though he never joined the party).

A small portion of entries from both volumes were released by the "The German Library" (appoximately 30 pages) using the same translation author:

Did some more looking, found out this was published this year:

I want a first edition of The Magus by Francis Barrett, but I know if I ever somehow find one there is no way I would be able to pay for a book that valuable.

i hope you get your hands on one, but i really don't get the kick of having a book that is more to be possessed than to be read.

Really? Have you not owned a beautiful book?

I love my hardcover Mason & Dixon, my first edition Ada (and my heavily marked pulp edition), my duct-taped Infinite Jest.

The NYRB Classics are beautiful.

The physicality of books is severely underrated. Reading on a screen is less appealing. A flick left or arrow key right is nothing like turning a page…

I own some nice leather hardcovers that I really would just prefer to leave on the shelf instead of fidgeting with it and risking the chance of damaging it. Just cracking one open makes me a tad anxious about dropping it and flattening a corner or accidentally folding a page.

I'm not a fan of ebooks either, though they are incredibly convenient.

I just stick with old banged up paperbacks published decades ago that I pick up for $3-$10 a pop.

That's how I feel. I have a copy of David Tibet's recently published anthology Sing Omega (pic related) limited to 393 copies, and I get fucking nervous when touching it. I will never bring it outside.

Nothing to report on my end of this search. I did warn you it could take some weeks. I plan on stopping by my supplier this weekend for a face to face chat. Given I've not heard anything from them by now I doubt it will help.

There are a few other avenues I could pursue. I don't think they'll be worth it because the likely cost will be a few hundred dollars, per book. The sort of places that offer rare book searches like that you can look up yourself – beyond covering any minimal costs for my own amusement I'm neither soliciting nor getting involved in any sideband financial transactions that would be needed to cover such expenses.

I've not given up yet, and will explicitly post a message here if I do. The outcome is still iffy, and will require more time.

OP here checking in after a while, just wondering if anyone has come across a copy of Africian Diversions (translated 1954).

This guy came across a copy from ebay in November:

Good bump, this got lost in the 8chan Infinity upgrade fiasco.

TL;DR - no joy.

Final update:

>>7139

I was not able to find these editions. Sadly, two places I used to do business with went tits up. While they had some hardcore people who were amazingly good at tracking down all sorts of obscure stuff the whole business was made redundant with on-line used book search services. A shame, as for something like this the on-line searches aren't cutting it.

While you could engage some professional services it's going to cost you, and you can look them up yourself if you are willing to go that far. Good luck.

Appreciate the dedication, thank you.

What price range are we looking at?
