From what I understood, the main point of "Candide" was to bash optimism, the philosophy according to which everything in the world is good. The second title of "Candide" if I remember correctly was "L'optimisme".

i can't think of a specific title.

but sometimes i wonder if i really understand what i'm reading and that maybe the more crystal clear it looks the greater the mistake i might have made.

That doesn't explain anything after Candide renounces it. Seeing as it's a humour book, I was expecting to finally see a flash of brilliance from him, but his decisions become even worse after that.
