At any rate, here is some feedback from the board staff. We're glad we insisted on referring to step one as an alpha test in spite of whatever terminology Hotwheels et. al. is using.

>i liked the blue better.

Agreed.

Dropped in the Hotwheels approved CSS legacy overlay. It's … blue. Could use some improvement but it is an improvement on the default.

>is that a security code? bummer!

Yeah. At the time of this writing every post requires filling out the security code, aka captcha. The developer stated this is changing to a less fascist method soon. BOs have no control or influence over captchas at the moment. This also is planned to change, "soon."

>no embed field?

Another missing feature. There's no option to enable it. We're not even sure what filetypes will ultimately be allowed – this might spell the death knell of formal file upload boards such as:

>>>/library/

Hopefully they'll keep PDFs which should be enough of a reason for /library/ to stick around. We'll just have to wait and see.

Speaking of captchas, at least one board management function requires a captcha. Let's call that feature implementation choice fiendishly ingenious. While restoring the board configuration is good for practice, it's going to get old real fast if they keep smashing it.

Also, about half the options we have access to don't seem to do anything no matter the setting. That's a good thing; a lowly BO shouldn't have access to most of them. Much less a BV, or registered user, or anonymous user, or proxy user. The user permissions system looks to be something epic in scope and finely detailed.

Currently though it's just bonkers.

>Thank you based anon.

And thank you for your efforts as well. We all miss TAR.

Huh. More "503" messages now. Wonder what is in store next for Next?

Rumor has it we are migrating to Next soon. Cross your fingers, burn some black candles, fap, whatever.

Really not much else to say. I'm sure everyone who cares to knows all there is to know about 8chan's infrastructural decay and the attempts at remediation.

There is no point holding this thread up as a board sticky. At least until something actually happens or there are meaningful updates, down it goes.

That is all.

i heard that brave new world is somehow a copy of that.

how true is it in your opinion?

I have only read "We", but from what I know of Brave New World, the two books are not that related. Brave New World deals with oppression through senseless hedonism, "We" deals with oppression through classical totalitarian means. The vision of "We" is much closer to 1984, but even those two are hardly copies. The regime in "We" is honest, for example.

i think that brave new world is about stability through hedonism.

at least i'm one of those that, while not approving, thought that mustapha mond had a point in the end…

In my opinion, no.

BNV has the feel of stable, fairly respectable, and fully functional worldwide civilization with a sense of community that is simply going about its business of being. It also feels like a place existing twenty minutes into the future. The problems with such a society are more hinted at than highlighted, and the foil used to show this is not as clearly delineated as being such.

We has more of a post-apocalyptic presentation, with a (somewhat ironic) sense of isolation. Modern audiences interpret this as a singular post nuclear war caused future, although Zamyatin was envisioning the demonstrated overall insanity of the First World War as sufficient cause for why things are. This civilization is shown as still intent on getting shit done, and progressing. The futuristic feel of it is far more distant and dislocated from our time, in spite of what is, to us, an occasional amusingly retro Buck Rodgers tech cameo.

BNW is suggestive of a world where one might comfortably survive, and even quietly thrive by some measures. Such is part of the horror of it.

We is damned scary from the get go, somewhere much farther gone into the weird, and where there is no place to hide.

The developer has competed the second site wide import of threads, posts, data, etc. to the beta board. Everything posted after this post will not automatically make it across.

Now we wait for the beta to be brought online. We can continue our dystopian discussion once the beta fires back up. Thread locked.

That is all we know for now.
