>trilogy

>1st entry has well-written protagonist and unique plot with an ending that is somewhat open for a sequel

>2nd entry has a distinctly different protagonist, but still decently written. Protagonist is somehow related to original protagonist through blood or story events; plot is decently written, ending is a cliffhanger

>3rd entry is inevitable team up of the protagonists from both prior entries with a plot straight out of Hollywood C-tier action film

>Book starts with a capital letter

>Ends with a period

sometimes they end with ellipsis.

are you sure? example of such a trilogy?

i've seen that happen in more than a book, but never in a series.

>Pull it off the shelf

then i guess i am more lucky. the few fantasy series i've read usually don't go to shit if not after book 3.

last time i could not go further than book 4 of the black company series.

>M Night Shamalan movie post "The Last Airbender"

>Movie one of (insert title of series that will never exist here)

>Feeling of relief as you realize most studios don't have the budget to make shitty movies the way book publishers have the money to throw away on god-awful sequels to mediocre fantasy novels

>character likes to read, is a bookworm

Laziest characterization ever, look Im reading I relate to them!!! XD

 No.9143

I'd say it's more:

1st entry has a concise ending with closure.

2nd entry ends on a cliffhanger with a host of loose ends because the author knows he can write a 3rd book.

3rd entry simply picks up from the last and doesn't stand on its own due to being so closely tied to the 2nd.

>You are the chosen one, only you can save this city/country/planet/galaxy

Enjoying reading is a trait ,and characterization is a process. I like to read. Does that mean my writer is lazy, or do you get a kick out of fabricating nonsense just to call a writer bad?

>>7943

>First book usually okay, series quickly degenerates into garbage

This is why a don't buy books that are part of a series.

Main character is a young girl with vague talents, "a destiny", and gets caught in a war between rivaling factions and has enough impact to suddenly change the course of the war.

Also, love triangles.

 No.9198

>book has a few pages of fighting

>they're more interesting than all the others put together

 No.9209

>>9198

you must read some very shitty books.

I was thinking mostly about Do Androids Dream. Maybe it's because it best shows that people don't always have empathy.
