Any recommendations on good books about Napoleon? I've been meaning to pick up pic related for a while, would love if someone happened to have a pdf version and save me 20 bucks.

 No.8480

You are aware he wrote a romantic novel, yes?

What better way to discover the man? Romances were their version of our taking to fan-fiction.

A novelist, a painter, a journalist, and a librarian. Four different paths to totalitarianism; four different men.

I've seen an edition in French. The one you are looking for is in English, yes?

I don't have a line on it but I'm looking.

 No.8484

about napoleon or napoleon related?

also fiction or non fiction?

Not the OP, but if you have some lay them on us. Good fiction recommendations could be fun.

Yea I'm looking for the English version. Even if you dont find it I appreciate you looking.

>>8484

Preferably about Napoleon himself but like >>8485 said some fiction could be interesting as well.

what i had in mind was conrad's "the duel".

napoleon is really in the background. if i rememeber correctly he actually meets one of the two main characters, but it's just a fact that you are told, you don't actually see it happen.

what made me suggest that is the pride of being officers in napoleon's army both characters feel and how important it is to them and that it's precisely what helps them relate with each other.

btw ridley scott destroyed that and made harvey keitel's character a lunatic. a bad adaptation if you ask me.

anyway it's a short read.

and then there could be that part of les miserables about marius' father.

but that's not a short read.

Napoleon Symphony by Anthony Burgess; it shows what he was really like in private, in particular with his first wife.
