Best LOTR audiobook narrator?

I remember listening to TTT about a decade ago and loved the voice the guy had, very chill.

i don't know. audiobooks are really not for me.

i tried them a couple of times, but i didn't find them as comfy as written books.

I can't remember the name of the audiobook series of The Hobbit + LoTR I listened to as a kid, but if at all possible I would love to invest in a LoTR/Hobbit audiobook read by Sir John Hurt. The man makes the phone book sound classy.

Tolkien didn't record one himself? I'm fairly certain that he did one for the Hobbit.

He only did bits and pieces. The recordings he did are really neat to listen to, but its only a couple of sections (like Riddles in the Dark and the approach to Edoras)

That's unfortunate. He had a god-tier narration voice.
