Also part of the plan. Three Lobed Burning Eye, Fantasy Scroll, Weird Horizons, Heavy Metal, Weird Tales, Science Fiction World, Abyss and Apex, Aurealis, Bards and Sages quarterly, and Apex Digest all look like good prospects that I have bookmarked for future submissions.
There are also ones that I tend to avoid. I honestly can't stand when the rules for submission are as long as anything I would submit would be.
"Please use only 12 or. Times New Roman font. Do not use italics, or double margins. Manuscripts should be double spaced (not sure what that even means) saved in 8-1/2” x 11” format with 1” margins. The body of your submission email will be considered the cover letter. Please do not include the work in the actual email itself, instead include in the email four (4) separate and appropriately named Word (.doc) documents. These are required to be attached to your submission email and must be:
1. A standard and professional query letter that includes your 25 - 30 word book pitch and the word count of your manuscript
2. A 250 word synopsis of the work
3. Your marketing plan - we would like to see that you understand who your target reader is and how you would reach them
4. The first 50 pages of the work, with your name and the title of the book in the header, and page numbers in the footer;
Please type your name, the title of your book, and the genre in the subject line of your email to *name of Publisher* We do not accept submissions from literary agents.
These are our current rules for submissions, and you did not comply with any of them, with the exception of the final rule.
This particular submission has brought a number of issues to our attention, specifically that we have not made these rules apparent in our submission guidelines for amateur and aspiring writers (actually your submission guidelines were just your email address and a request to let the publishers know if I found another publisher before they judged the work) we will be updating it as of now.
Also should you be published keep in mind that publishing industry has changed drastically over the past decade and because of these changes, authors must now carry the responsibilities of marketing, promotions and publicity for their books. This is a daunting task, and many authors fail, losing their publishing contract or possibly any future contracts. It’s a hard, cold fact … an author’s books must sell and sell well for the publishing machine to keep moving."
Signed an upstart publisher that has only existed since 2013 and has published nothing at all of any merit and is carried by no bookstore outside of Amazon.
Fuck you I'll find someone else.
I have literally never been asked to attach four separate .doc files, or told what Font I should use, or held reaponsible for the marketing and promotion of my work.
