Can we have a booksharing thread? Upload some books you think are interesting/entertaining that aren't easily available.

I collect old gamebooks from the '80s and '90s (think Choose Your Own Adventure). Unfortunately typical digitization doesn't do much for them, since you can't conveniently flip through a PDF when you make a choice. A lot of these books will never be republished, so I want to start making them playable in an electronic format. I'm going to try to put as many of them as I can in HTML so they're readable in web browsers, then format them properly for the Kindle so they can be read on e-readers. With the illustrated books I'm also scanning all their artwork and integrating it with the text. There's a lot of great art hidden in old dusty paperbacks.

The first book I've finished isn't illustrated, but it's still fun to play on the toilet. I'm sure a lot of you remember Goosebumps; this was part of a gamebook series under the same brand. The first in the series is called Escape from the Carnival of Horrors.

I also wanted to share a fantastic writing book that has helped me a lot called Immediate Fiction. It's my bible. If any of you ever get stuck on a story and can't diagnose where you went wrong, this is the book for you.

Share your goods, give a brief description.

This board isn't about sharing books, but thanks for sharing, anyway!

Immediate Fiction, is it also about world building and establishing your world, creating characters etc.? Because I love reading about that. If not, I'm still interested

I know, but this is the most active book board on fullchan, so I figured this was the best place to post if I wanted any replies.

And yes, Immediate Fiction has a lot about characters, plot, nuts & bolts etc.; not much about world-building though – probably have to find a fantasy-oriented guide for that.

The board staff settled on the idea that supporting direct file uploads to the board itself is probably a bad idea. That's not fixed in stone, for now though the board does not support it.

As far as sharing off-board links and resources goes, sure! And thank you. It's good to see such a thread.

Sounds great. I downloaded it, will read it some time. To be honest, reading up on how to do proper worldbuilding is 60% mental masturbation to me, anyway.

Don't most gamebooks tell you to turn to add a number to the current page if you want to use a key or something?

Good old Fabled Lands.

The Choose Your Own Adventure-style books are very simplistic next to the kind of British gamebook lines you're talking about – Fighting Fantasy being the most popular among them. There's usually more focus on story and less on the game element; most don't even have an inventory or stats. They're just branching-plot. Plus, as your picture shows, the more popular British series have already been digitized and are easily available to play. I spent so many hours playing Lone Wolf on the computer.

That's a list of the type of series I collect.

I think branching stories in the US skipped to digital with Hypercard games, but some things are not worth archiving.

Fighting Fantasy has some adaptations for iOS and Android, and there was that shit Sorcery! >adaptation, but only Fabled, and now Goosebumps, are properly digitized, and you can play them on about anything that can read the book.
