How can you possibly understand what the book is going to be about? It seems you might waste a lot of your time, not knowing what to think about the book, before you read it.

I believe if it's non fiction the first chapter is usually irrelevant and thus it could be ignored.

Could you explain a little more about why you think Earthbound is so good? I played it a few years ago, and while it was a satisfying experience, your post is making me consider that the game had some greater aspects to it that flew over my head. If there's anything that could make me appreciate it more than I already do, I would love to hear it.

I would play Mother 3 just to see the latter half of the game and the ending. You might not think it quite hits the mark the same way Earthbound did, but I think it's still a great game in its own right and one of the very few worthwhile games out there.

Do you have any other games you would recommend playing?

I hope nobody is bothered by this thread. I know this is a literature board, but some games do have artistic merit, which is what we're all really joined together by, right? Pls no ban

 No.1421

>>1412

I really like Earthbound because the story comes through in the tiniest of details, and makes the world feel alive like the best literature does. But idk. You've played it so I don't think there's much else I can say.

The final boss of course is very special for a video game. Having to pray for help was a beautiful moment, especially when fighting against this great intangible omnipresent evil. Very unique.

I'll try to finish Mother 3 at some point. I did really enjoy it.

As far as other games go, I would recommend killer7 if you haven't played it. Extremely bizarre in its narrative. Very intellectual and political in its themes. Has this feverishly psychological Lynch-style to it. Seems in retrospect to have been prophetic on issues like domestic terrorism and neetdom.

Thanks for replying. I agree completely about what you said about Earthbound, the whole experience was mesmerizing. Not to spoil anything, but Mother 3 does get philosophical towards the end, more so than EB in my opinion. Also very unique. I'm going to download Killer7 right now, it sounds amazing from the way you described it.

I would love to, but I have no idea where to start. Would you mind sharing some recommendations? I'm half-embarrassed to say I've only played Katawa Shoujo…

I wasn't the user that got banned. I'm just another random anon and not >>420. I worded my posts a bit poorly. I'm not a fan of /pol/ and its way of thinking either. And I actually agree with your and >>436 views on the article too. It's nothing more than stupid clickbait feeding on outrage. I used to enjoy browsing both /pol/ and /leftpol/ even though I didn't agree with either of their philosphies because it was fun and interesting to debate with people. But both of those boards went to shit and became shells of their former selves in large part because the moderation began to over-rely on banning instead of allowing the users to take care of the shitposters themselves.

And of course I do not intend or mean to drag politics into the board or to politicize obvious clickbait. Just offering my advice since I wish this new board well.

>bans on this website are effectively meaningless so… fuck my life, I guess

Like I said here >>434 bans can still be effective and are still neccessary to make sure shit stirrers don't ruin a board. Just make sure to remember that bans aren't the only tool to use, the userbase themselves, the board culture, are also a tool to curtail shitposters.

/tv/ is a fantastic example of the extreme opposite problem. They took the exact opposite position and never banned anyone only giving bans to illegal content, even spamming the board only resulted in deleting the spam but leaving the spammer unbanned. Unsurprisingly /tv/ also went to shit. Over-relying and under-relying on bans can both lead to degradation of board quality. As long you guys remain clear on the board culture you want to cultivate I think you'll do just fine.

Also thank you on Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

>critique of Rand by her 14-year-old boy-lover cum Sith lord student

this should be mandatory fucking reading by anyone who is obsessed with Rand. This guy was literally raised by her and worshiped her like a goddess, and even HE still eventually moved away and found some serious flaws.

AYNAL RAMNED is not a Literary figure; She is a Political pundit and a Public speaker who found outsize attention because of the cold war and the Boomer Ego, whilst real Literary Masters like Solzhenitsyn were largely panned by the media.

the shared game of life is one we all must play.

It is a hard trial; longer than the seas are wide, and beyond the deepest memory one might fathom.

All's fair in Love and War, but the honor we hold is what separates mice from men, and to so forthrightly cast aside the rules of the game is to lower oneself below that of the sternest ass and fallow hog; to be at once with the very slop that holds the refuse of the fallen.

O pity not these wicked fiends who splay across the trough, lest you find yourself foolishly enamored; thrust headlong into the foul bile as Narcissus once displayed to all men. Nay, I bid you, hold steadfastly to your means and pursue righteousness by any path. Drag from the chaos of primordial slop that which enlightens all and you will find the bounds lifted from your feet. Fly! Fly! O shining one. Fly outside the reach of the shrieking hags who envy you with all their being. Persist against all odds!

Do you like Huey Lewis and The News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
