Nah, it's been rooted now, been that way for the last two generations. Anything that's not perfectly middle of the road "normal" kid will be labeled autism. The coddling of these kids is what does all the damage to them and thier mentality and personalities. It didn't replace ADHD, ADHD is a specific form of autism.

Autism is a broad term that includes all forms of autism, ADHD can be and still is argued to be one of them. Fads don't last decades, we're stuck with it. It is medical factual and accepted. The only difference of now and decades ago is people treated the kids the same as any kid and they would adjust just fine more often that not. I have two ants both with autistic kids, one coddles her kid and he is a huge spoiled brat that knows he can blame his autism and get away with it, they other treats her two kids, both with autism, and they are fairly normal.

They would still put you in special education even before they diagnosed people as autistic all the time. You just needed to act weird enough and teachers never like dealing with problem children.
