Japanese culture confuses me so much. They have a great apparition for perverted art, yet they still don't want anybody to see it.

Who are these laws supposed to protect?

How would they even prove it's working if Hentai/Porn are still legal?

Why do Jap artists give up their freedoms so easily by obeying such draconian laws?

Why doesn't Japan have a stronger free speech movement in the first place?

All censorship laws do is shackle talented artists like Annyanko. Effectively keeping them from fully expressing themselves. It makes no sense at all.

It's pretty simple. Asian cultures put all the emphasis on authority, none on the individual. Like an insect hive. It's why communism was so able to take over, and why each individual country despises all the others so much despite their similarities. Us-vs-Them is enhanced tremendously with undying loyalty to your personal authority figure. Literally anything could be acceptable or unacceptable in a culture like this, as long as the group decides it. It means rapid change is easy to achieve but lasting change is imposible.
