How do you guys calibrate your screens? I was thinking about getting a color meter and was looking at either the Spyder 5 Elite or the X-Rite i1Display Pro.

Has anyone used either of these or anything else to calibrate their screens?

This is one thing that's been bothering me ever since I got a Cintiq 12wx so long ago. The colors on that screen looked like ass compared to all of my other monitors and I couldn't tell which one was the "right" one. I think a calibrator would be a good tool to have, especially if you plan on printing stuff out.

Doing some reading it looks like the X-Rite Display Pro and Munki have the higher quality hardware. But the X-Rite smile has lower quality hardware than the spyder so if you are looking for the low end budget color meter you are best off with the spyder express over the smile. If you want the higher quality color meter though you are best off with the X-Rite munki or the Display pro since the only difference is software.

Also, the argyllcms with dispcalgui if supposed to be better color meter software than what comes with the smile or spyder express. I don't know how it compares to the higher end software that comes with the better meters though.

After doing some more research it looks like the MunkiColor is 5x slower than the i1Display Pro but I can figure out if it is because of hardware or because of software. Software wise I have found claims that the DispCalGUI software is more acurate than the X-Rite software but I haven't found anyone presenting any eveidence either way nor can I verify that DispCalGUI has all of the features that the i!Display Pro software has.
