What Zelda game had the deepest storyline?

I would definitely put Link's Awakening on top, followed by Majora's Mask, then Twilight Princess.

What I like about LA is that it starts quite normal, its only in the 5th dungeon and especially in the 6th when you start wondering 'Am I actually doing the right thing?'
By proceeding from there you realize not only am I killing the nightmares and their monsters but also the peaceful villagers and animals.
No other Zelda game has questioned the hero's motive like that ever again
(note: I didnt play Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks)

MM is just generally darker than other Zelda games and has an antagonist with a tragic backstory instead of just being evil. I like sad characters. Ganondorf's motives comparingly become a little boring (or simple) over time.

And then there is TP which again is nice and dark. This time the sad char fights on your side (well more or less) and you encourage her to stand up for her people. I quite liked it.

The other games' stories were okayish. List would probably continue with OoT, ALttP, OoS/A, WW and SS last.
Cant really include LoZ 1&2 cause i barely remember them. Played them when I was like 6 or 7 :)

I really enjoyed MM because of it's dark themes. Even at it's worst, Hyrule had a cheery tone to it. Termina was the perfect antithesis for it. The storyline was definitely "deep" in that it manipulated emotions in a way the others weren't able to do.

Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask definitely had the deepest storylines in Zelda games. I can't wait to buy a copy of MM for the 3DS. I've watched a few videos on it, and the improved graphics are amazing. Also, even though Link to the Past didn't have a too deep storyline, I really liked the feel to it, and I liked the story.

>>13 Majora's Mask 3D is fantastic. They made a few U necessary changes to the bosses which I didn't like, but other than that it is amazing.

hmm. That's a little disappointing that they changed some of the bosses. Were the changes minor or did they affect gameplay quite a bit?

 No.22

>>18 It was just the boss battles. Some of the changes took away from their difficulty a little bit. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Twinmold was a cunt and a half, goht was basically the same with an added step, and gyorg just took 2 extra steps.

So they made the bosses harder, rather than easier? That's strange. Usually they easy everything up for the newfags.

It would pretty cool if we could get a new zelda game with an extensively deep story. It seems the most recent Zelda games have been focussing more on gameplay than on story. I am not asking for another dark Zelda, although that would be nice, but a Zelda game with a very deep story with more developed characters and villains. It would be really cool to see characterized bosses, all with different personalities. Maybe even Link could get some more characterization. Hell, even Zelda herself could use some. So, what kind of story and character development would you anons like to see?

I'm surprised you put WW so low. A lot of it was implicit, but the idea of the new taking over from the old was probably the most mature Zelda theming to date.

Ganondorf's inability to let go of the old kingdom even though he was the only one in it, Link having to earn his place as the hero, rather than being born into it; 'I want you to live for the future!' – all great moments. The reworking of old music definitely helped, too.

I'd say Majora's Mask first, because I'm a sucker for mystery, then OoT/WW joint second, as they function best as two sides of the same coin, like Tolkien's Silmarilion and LotR trilogy. After that I'd say LA, TP for Midna, LttP for establishing a lot of the canon, and SS for Demise. I don't remember anything particularly striking about OoA/S, and funnily enough, I haven't played Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks, either.

This is probably a terrible idea but I thought of it on the spot
>Link finds out that Gannondorf,Zelda and himself have been getting re incarnated
>doesn't save zelda
>leaves hyrule
>returns for whatever reason
>everything is falling apart including reality

Yeah, not the best premise, since we've already learned what happens. If Link doesn't save the day, shit gets flooded and eventually some unrelated tyke earns the title of new Hero. And there's also that official darkest timeline post Hyrule Historia. Things got bad, but not unsalvageable. Reality continues to real on.
