I would probably regret it due to just how utterly mindless they are - but I don't, because I mostly watched them while exercising (the fact that they're mindless making them a perfect thing to keep the attention)

I also enjoyed his Darkest Dungeon plays, but then I unsubbed due to the sheer amount of content he pumped out and forgot to check his channel out manually as I was intending. Thanks for the reminder.

He's bretty gud. He's the only real major YouTuber/twitch streamer I watch, and the NLSS is great stuff, even if it has decreased in quality ever since Josh left.

Seriously, the departure of full time Josh saw a noticeable quality decrease. Josh was the perfect counter to some of the downright stupid shit Nick spews, and his chemistry with Ryan is godly. The banter they've been engaging in these past few weeks now that he's back on Mondays is as good as ever. Going back to watch some older NLSS episodes really highlight how different it was compared to now. It's just too sterile, too "by the books" so to speak.

On a side note, fuck his SJW mods.

I feel like even though it's well within Nintendo's legal and even moral right to do this, it's still a poor decision. They've shunned the journos, which makes sense as they're in their death throes. But a bad rep on youtube has the potential to bite them for years.

like if someone used a song I recorded in a movie, yeah that movie is an original work and in fact has less relevance to my own song than an LP does to a game, it's still my song they used and I can say how it's used. It might probably in fact be a huge boost for me exposure-wise but that's my decision to make and I would still expect to get paid if it was a for-profit work. Being a percent-based system is a good compromise compared to "not reaching an agreement so the video is blocked from youtube, period", this does nothing to the "for fun" folks and "harms" the for-profit LPers which are mostly owned by fucking disney anyway, hardly a "big company vs poor little artist" situation

the reason it's a poor decision is simply because no one else is doing it. Of course the success stories cited are those that massively profit from the "culture" aspect, such as league and minecraft. Nintendo isn't in a position to do that, if everyone chooses to stop playing nintendo games on youtube because of this they dont care at all. Their loss here is in reuptation, I dont think they'll recover that through youtube ad revenue but they're probably hoping others will follow suit.

keep in mind I'm saying this as someone who makes LPs and enjoys watching them, it doesn't make me personally happy to see nintendo taking money for nothing but it has to be within their right if you believe anything resembling copyright is a good thing at all, this barely qualifies as a grey area

Since we're on the subject of screenshot LPs, where would be a good place to host them?

I did a screenshot LP of Pokemon Y a few months ago and ended up hosting it on Tumblr. It seemed like a good idea at the time since its free, simple, and the blog format seems pretty well suited to a screenshot LP. Looking back, it may not have been the best place considering the Tumblr userbase likes to look at animated gifs and mem pictures rather than a long post that requires reading. I posted it on the pokemon subreddit but in general very few people read it. However, it was still easy to use and I don't necessarily regret it.

But I hadn't considered posting one on 4/8 chan, at least not initially. I'm considering finding another game to LP and putting it here instead. I'd probably still get something like Tumblr to host it, but here is an actual community that wants to see/read LPs. Despite nobody actually reading it, it was actually kinda fun to do (I'm not even a fan of pokemon). What do you guys think? Would this be a good idea?

Well the first one I did had no audience input (because there was no audience).

Anyway, The main thing I want help in is deciding what game I want to LP. The only reason I chose Pokemon Y was because:
1) I got it for free through that one nintendo promotion
2) I had only played the first two pokemon games prior on gameboy, and certainly didn't play them like some hardcore players do.

I did the LP because I thought some people might appreciate what the game is like in the eyes of someone who is essentially playing it for the first time. If I were to do another LP, I'd hope to do something similar. That is to say, I'd like to play a game from a long lasting series that I've either never played before, or haven't played in such a long time. Thinking back, having a lot of audience input would have probably been a bad thing.

Unfortunately there aren't many games like that that I can think of. I saw pokemon as a unique opportunity, but I don't think anything else like that will really come along. Does anyone have any ideas?
