Release 55:
This update has been a polishing update, with a new feature aswell:
Oil ocean mutator: you can now set oil level, if near the vapour level of
the oil, enflamed things will spread fire on the oil. The rate is settable
by cvar, currently set to a global max of 10 spreads per second, a per-entity
think interval of 2 seconds, and a 30 percent chance of deciding to spread

Bugfixes for mines: A bug that has been in xonotic for along time (since
it had mines) has been defeated. The bug was that if a mine was following

Is there a libre 3D FPS game similar to Unreal 1?

 No.1825

In what aspect? You mean like UT99? Or the actual single player Unreal1?

I used to be a big fan of the unreal series before I made a fully free switch. There are no libre remakes nor any libre attempts at cloning the unreal experience. I think doom3 and openjk might give you what you are after though.

Yeah I mean the original Unreal 1, that's why I posted pic of it, to clarify it a bit.

For UT99 it seems the closet libre game out there is Xonotic but it doesn't has coop function from what I know.

Coop maps are different and mostly based on SP maps.

Yeah I've seen there is this http://www.iodoom3.org/news/ but it doesn't seem that anybody is developing on it anymore.

mhm does it still have a forum at all? Because when I tired to search for I could only find a build page and the Github one, a few references to forums sites but none of them works at all.

I have not played sp coop with either of these though. That game mode tends to be on consoles rather than over networks. Still though, it should be possible.

What does /lv/ think of Battle for Wesnoth?

I'm actually astounded that I have never heard of this game until now. This is easily going to the top of my libre vidya recommendation list now.

It reminds me of Fire Emblem with a hex grid but it actually addresses a lot of the things I've never liked about that series.

upscaled four times to 288 by 288 pixels using no interpolation, sinc, linear and cubic. no matter how you do it, it ends up departing significantly from the established aesthetic.

 No.1102

>>1101

The nearest-neighbor one is the exact same thing only bigger. The rest are only a departure because of the disgusting filter you used.

 No.1813

>>1006

Agreed. War, even on the individual scale, is decided more by your ability to provide for contingencies than your ability to plan and execute cunning tactics. Strict determinism is for puzzle games. Wesnoth's big problem in single-player isn't its randomness, but the difficulty (especially for novice mappers) of balancing multi-map campaigns against snowballing resource accumulation.

>>1074

Polygonal 3D would be a hardware-crushing abomination for a 2D turn-based game like this. Just draw all assets at extremely high resolution (or in some sort of natural media, and scan,) then allow people to download whatever sprite set they want. Either way, like the flawless pixel-art style has to be ditched to go higher.

If there's anything major the game really needs, it's a ground-up rewrite of the graphical subsystem to be more stable, efficient, and scalable. RAM requirements are absurdly excessive on cellphones, and wildly fluctuating CPU requirements can cause even PCs to chug or glitch at times if you're doing something else in the background. Think of something like StarCraft, which did hundreds of 8-bit sprites with multiple levels of alpha at 640x480, all buttery smooth in software on a Pentium with 16MB RAM.

>>1087

>>1044

You folks DO know the game has had a nearest neighbor zoom function (default keys "+" "-" & "0" in addition to a conspicuous magnifying glass icon next to the minimap) since the very first version, right? I guess they could add more GUI sizes, scalers, and some sort of automatic HiDPI detection to zoom by default.

 No.1820

>>856

I played the fuck out of this game. Its great.

 No.1822

>War, even on the individual scale, is decided more by your ability to provide for contingencies than your ability to plan and execute cunning tactics. Strict determinism is for puzzle games. Wesnoth's big problem in single-player isn't its randomness, but the difficulty (especially for novice mappers) of balancing multi-map campaigns against snowballing resource accumulation.

I would argue that intelligence and understanding the tactics of your enemy and how to outsmart them are more important. The real problem with this argument though is that we're talking about a game here. War in real life may be decided by random factors but there's no reason to play it up so much in an actual game. It doesn't make it more fun; it makes it frustrating and makes it particularly unrewarding to put a lot of thought into planning ahead. Instead the planning becomes more a matter of playing in as safe and passive a manner as possible. Imagine if you were playing a game of chess and your queen could randomly fail in capturing a pawn and instead be defeated. It just isn't needed to make a competent game of strategy.

the wads(doom.wad, doomu.wad, doom2.wad, the team TNT iwads and the wads for the full versions of heretic, hexen and strife) are considered proprietary assets and thus are non free. iirc, the hacx wad can be legally redistributed nowadays, but I don't remember if its explicitly libre.
tl;dr redistributing id's wads is piracy.

the freedoom project has released two wads that serve as 1:1 asset replacements for ultimate doom and doom2, and are specifically intended to allow running doom mods with a libre iwad. these can be redistributed, and since most mods are based on doom2 assets, freedom's doom2 asset replacer should work in most situations.

Paranoia 2 uses the Xash3D engine which is a goldsrc clone, but the people who made Paranoia 2 did not provide source code with their binary iirc. Xash3D is GPLv3 by the way, so i'm pretty sure they are required to do that.

http://www.moddb.com/games/paranoia-2-savior

same deal for Paranoia 1 apparently. they re-released it on Xash3D and they seem to only provide an executable.

maybe someone could tell them how to make their projects comply with the GPL?

Technically they only have to provide source code upon request. In addition, if it's just the engine, then it's not their code so they can just refer back to the original project, although yes the onus is on them to provide source when they distribute any gpl binary.

I'm not sure what game this is or what you're trying to accomplish, but most package managers don't bother compiling from source.

Open a terminal and type "sudo gimp", you'll be able to use Gimp in root mode.

If sudo is not found, replace it with "su -c gimp"

>Devaun is not completely libre I thought. It has a Debian base, meaning the main repo is libre but the kernel is not Linux-libre. Or am I wrong?

Neither is debian kernel, nor is the linux kernel, they all have accepted "we need this proprietary blob code IN TREE that can do anything". Which is why when you go to china the entire contents of your ram and often any fast storage you have in any powered on device can be sucked out remotely.

There is no security for us pleabs.

I think Devuan just uses what debian does, thus the kernel+kernel-blobs pkgs.
