 No.1092

>tfw your favorite game was developed and published closed source and costs money so you can never play it again to uphold your libre vidya beliefs

Being an /lv/ fag is suffering, I wish I could play video games again.

 No.1093

>costs money so you can never play it again

Free software can cost money. Look at Red Hat.

Why not just do what you enjoy? If you use non-free software, is Richard Stallman going to descend from the heavens and eat something off your foot?

At least I have principles, if not video games.

linux gaming != libre gaming

 No.1205

I miss Age of Empires and Age of Mythology. There's a project aimed at writing a libre AoK engine, but it's very incomplete right now.

I played 0 AD, yeah, but it's nowhere close to the AoE experience.

Try Xonotic?

>RA2

Hopefully OpenRA will port RA2 over soon, they have RA1 already

I kind of liked Nexuiz, but the ID games tend to have extreme jumping. It's just irritating and chaotic.

I think if I had the time in the future I would have an energy bar mod where you can only run and jump for so long until you get tired and have to wait a short period for the bar to refill.

As for RA2, I read something from the original author of openRA. He had access to some internal documentation which detailed how the engine functioned and how the graphics were stored. RA2 does things quite differently but current tools and mods seem to show a fair understanding of the engine. There is hope.

I don't think every proprietary game was made with malicious intent. Can't you play on a Windows box with no network connection? Proprietary software may be harmful, but some of those games are special. It's a tragedy that we may not see the source, but the wisdom that they have to share shouldn't be abandoned.

 No.1663

>>1659

Although this is against the free software philosophy, I whole heartedly agree. On a stand alone machine, proprietary software can be regarded as a service or soft circuit. Obviously this is also dependent on how much freedom the user is willing to give up on said machine, but if it's dedicated then likely the machine has no other use, like an arcade machine. This logic also applies to emulators. However, this doesn't justify purchase and support of proprietary software, which should always be avoided.

 No.1718

Battle Realms

Warcraft 3

Diablo 2

World of Warcraft

Team Fortress 2

STALKER

Counterstrike has some decent libre alternatives, but if I had the above I would be set.

 No.1750

This is why libre /vr/ gaming is awesome. I don't care too much for modern gaming and most of it is under a free license be it a source port or whatever.

>>1236

I really hope that the unreal/unreal tournament engine goes free software soon.

>>1718

There is a libre engine remake of the goldsrc engine, but it requires the half life SDK. Is it still free software?

 No.1752

Why is anime gril sad?

 No.1754

>Team Fortress 2

could always play Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, team based FPS.

theres Gang Garrison 2 too but thats 2D kuk

>Diablo 2

Freedroid RPG and Flare which was unfinished the last time i saw it

theres a libre reimplementation of Diablo 1 in development, no clue about Diablo 2. requires original game data

http://freeablo.org/

>Warcraft 3

i never found Warcraft 3's vanilla gameplay interesting at all, the neat thing it had was how you could make pretty complex maps, with custom skins, sound effects, etc. i do not know of an libre RTS with a map editor that can even do scripted events or anything like that.

theres a game similiar to Warcraft 2 called Wyrmsun though

>>1563

>I think if I had the time in the future I would have an energy bar mod where you can only run and jump for so long until you get tired and have to wait a short period for the bar to refill.

thats what Red Eclipse does, its libre

>>1616

give her libre video games

>>1752

There's also Wargus, but that needs some more work at this point.

Hiring hackers to liberate source codes when?

 No.1780

>>1092

You should just buy the rights to the game and liberate it. Crowdfund it, if need be.

What about spring? There are a few others I can think of but spring is probably best.

 No.1842

postal plus

I really need to find a murder themed libre game.

 No.1846

>>1092

Fight-fag, here.

You have NO idea. But Skullgirls is on Linux and I've got a shitton of emulators, so I'm more lucky.

 No.1847

>"Tetris Attack"

Panel de Pon. Please. It will be less confusing.

Also, isn't Nullpomino libre? Why it isn't on that list? Best Tetris clone ever. Better than a lot of official Tetris games.

 No.1851

>>1847

Panel de Pon is just as confusing to be honest. Just say "Puzzle League", it's been an official part of multiple English titles in the series at this point.
