I never used this service, so I'm curious. It seems to have a GPL'ed client application?
https://github.com/desura/desura-app So it's alright to use this for purchasing libre games? It seems to be owned by a company which calls itself "Bad Juju Games" since only a few months now, are these guys alright?
And then next question: What are some libre vidya that I can get on Desura? Is there any way to easily see the license when browsing games or sort for license?

I personally like to use deb packages so I can handle the games with my package manager. I haven't used it for over a year now but I remember it being really good. The games are kept up to date which is nice. It's a GPL client and almost every libre game is on there, except for a few obscure ones but IIRC you can make requests for games to be included. However I think it needs chromium, or at least it did when I did it. I couldn't get the links to work in FF. I think there used to be something on a games' page that said if it was OSS but that seems to have gone, which isn't really the point anyway so no big loss.
Still even if they did display the license it would be pretty difficult to filter for that, there are many different licenses which are libre so it would be a pain to have to remember them all. The other option would be for them to allow filtering specifically for fsf approved licenses but then that's putting the effort on their part with basically no gain as most of those games are gratis and they see no revenue from it.
There is only two options as I see it:
First is just use it as is and only install the games you know are libre as listed here.
Second is we just fork it on github as desura-libre and only allow libre games to be installed.
As a side note, the company which released the source were openly anti DRM and I remember, though not specifically, they suggested to developers to not use DRM. That was several companies ago though, it has switched hands and changed logos many times since then.
When my new rig is built I am considering using this.

Wait wtf, where has teh linux binary gone?
http://www.desura.com/installI only see windows.
No.178
>>174Yup, seems like you have to compile it yourself for now. It's in AUR, for example. Seems like they also have an IRC channel #desura on Freenode where we could ask questions. For now I sent them a small e-mail with some stuff, maybe they'll answer.

Because, considering that both Warsow and Xonotic haven't been updated to their most recent updates to Desura yet, I'd like to find more notable games on the store

>>182Damn that is disappointing, the games not being updated I mean. Good to see the client getting polished. Most of the games on here are on there.
I suppose what we should really do is run our own repo. Only question is which distro would we support?

>>184just checked Xonotic's Desura page, and apparently it's still on 0.6, which was made literally 2 years ago.
fucking lol
somebody should seriously PM the devs about this and tell them to update it to 0.8

>>185Jesus Christ, lol! All those complaints about no update as well. LV should def have its' own repo.
