Are there any idle games that run in terminal?

 No.538

idlerpg through a terminal irc client?

There's one running on rizon.

It's really nice and is GPL licence'd, despite the fact that Taito still owns the game.

The controls are a bit stiff, but whatever.

sudo apt-get install ninvaders

yes I ubantuu pleb

apt-get has nothing to do with Ubuntu itself

By idle I take it you want to run a command and have the game play itself as you sit back and watch or leave it running in the background?

If so gnuchess can play against itself.

What sort of idle game would you like?

A virtual pet? Basically tamagotchi.

A business builder? Slowly build profit, buy out competitors, expand business etc.

A drug dealer game? Basically above but with killing, bribes and prison.

A garden? Pull weeds, plant flowers and water them.

A shit disposal game? Like every once in a while you have to cull the population of immigrants.

These were just some of the idle games I could think of. We could probably make most or all of these with relative ease.

Alternatively we could make something completely different, like a game about a rapist. Simply text based. Every so often you need to make him masturbate. If you fail to do so he begins raping. With each rape his likelihood of getting caught would raise until he has to move to a new area with a random "police presence" level dictating the number of rapes which are unknown to the user. I could probably just do this as a bash script.

You could try a life sim like conway, there's probably tons of terminal implementations for those kind of "games".

I believe OP meant something like CandyBox.

Now you've got me hankering for some dev-work. I'll probably do something like it in Lisp for shits and giggles.

i know OP will love this

sudo apt-get install cocksucker

its an idle game where you tap S to suck dick. every time you make a dick cum you get money

with money you get to buy stuff like hookers and cocksucking machines so you dont need to tap

you can also upgrade your looks to make dicksucking more efficent

Eventually you get to buy bordellos and galactic cocksucking machine factories enabling you to suck billions of penises at once and making you the ultimate multiuniversial master of sucking dick

>implying OP not already one

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead

I prefer playing it with tiles (the SDL version) but most play it in text mode in a terminal (ncurses)

http://en.cataclysmdda.com/

It's turn based zombie survival roguelike. If you like crafting, creative use of the environment, survival, loot, then you'll love it. Of course, it's turn-based so you can leave it idle as long as you want.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cataclysm%3A_Dark_Days_Ahead

On top of that, I'd consider it one of the best libre games there is around. It is under a Creative Commons licence and the source is available on github. They have many contributors, and the IRC channel is also very active.

Be warned: The first times you play it, you'll need to keep a cheatsheet or the Wiki handy, to look up the controls, and you'll probably die a lot. But it's a different experience every time, and you can take it thousands of different directions. Every game will go differently
