the underlying positives of an arena shooter is movement skill and pace, UT has neither of these so it's basically the Halo of "arena shooters"

If that's what you want, Nexuiz fills your niche, but since the master server for that went down, you're better off playing the original Nexuiz which was renamed to xonotic, which has quake movement as the other guy suggested meaning it's not fucking slow anymore

Are there any libre FPS that don't strut jump? Warsow is the worst, people just hold down the jump button. All that damn jumping, people bouncing around everywhere like it's Looney Toons. It's a wonder why they have walk at all in these games.

It's funny because John Carmack feels the same and it's his fault. Strafe jumping was actually a bug that proved too difficult to fix so John just left it alone.

It's true strafe jumping is stupid and looks fucking gay but gamers being as autistic as they are have built their entire "skill" around mashing the space bar and won't be giving it up any time soon.

I don't know about chaosesque but strafe jumping was specifically programmed into Nexuiz. It probably is untouched in xonotic.
