Lets play WDELAAAAAAAAAAANDS

https://wl.widelands.org

if you played settler 1 and 2 back in the 90's, you should try playing this game too. Basically it's a Libre version of settler the game. Btw, I'm downloading this for a first time myself on my gnu linux pc, so Check it out!

There's a libre version of Settlers 2 which works on Linux, but you need the data files from the original game.

k, but I need to play this game first. It seams interesting with different build orders and also have 3 different kingdoms to choose too.

I can't remember where I read it but I think they incorporated gameplay elements from settlers 1, 2 and 3 so it's not a true clone.

Also the buildings details looks way better than the originals.

How does it handle? Do the controls feel awkward at all? Any tips?

Once I got used to it, the game wasn't that much of an awkward particularly on the controls to be honest. It felt so much simplified than originals. I only played mostly s1 and a few s2 games in the past so, in my first experience on this kind of felt different.

I'm still not familiar with how every kingdom gather their resources differently. I had to look up on the manual just to get the tech tree right.

Tried installing this today and the interface was buggy as shit. The frame rate was like 10 fps and the menu display was seriously bugged. This game needs some serious work, at least on the Windows version.

I have no problem playing it on gun linux, the frame rate is smooth and the graphic is crystal clear :^)

Well I have rinsed the shit out of this for a couple of days. Very addictive. There are however three things that are a massive anal pain.

1) You can't load from in game. You have to exit, then click single player then load the game from there.

2) You can upgrade a building before a worker is skilled enough. It fucking pains me keeping track of my workers and if I get confused and upgrade a building before the worker is skilled enough I have to tear it down and start from scratch. Just grey the option out if I don't have a worker with the skills.

3) I can't seem to train new workers. Example, I have many mines but I can't get enough fucking farmers to manage the farms I build. I build a farm and it stays "not unoccupied." My miners need fucking food! So my only current option is to go to my headquaters and each warehouse I have to make sure I have a worker with the skills I need before I build something, which is fucking gay. If I build a farm, just give me a fucking farmer!

On the plus, this looks and sounds fucking great and I have really enjoyed playing. In fact it actually looks and sounds better than settlers 2 or 3. It's clear lots of work has gone into this. Still trying to get the statistics shit figured out.

>3)

I think you need to check whether you have a specific tool for that worker you wanted in your inventory. If you don't have it then you need to produce it from Toolmaker.

Ah dude, thank you, will do this tomorrow. It was driving me mad.

So I have been playing it for a while. Overall it's pretty good for an open-source game but the inconsistent graphics really detract from the overall experience.

Hah, I noticed it too. The sprites look great, very settlers-esque. The other art work could really do with updating. I assume most of it is just place holders given the game is not yet "complete."
