I really enjoyed Doom 3.
Has anyone tried compiling the source code?

Might make a deb package for myself.

This is the source that has been ported to *nix

Carmack released the source code atleast for earlier Dooms. If you're a l33t programmer you should be able to make your own game based off that.

The Dark Mod devs have.

Darkplaces can do most (or all?) of what Doom 3 can do. You need to use or make good assets ofcourse.

Here's an libre example with everything from Q1 look to doom3, really depends on the level and asset designer.

>BFG

Don't tell me it's the BFG edition.

That one was shit and was even missing features from the original Doom 3.

Ah come on, that's just bullshit. The audio and graphical difference is far superior.

The only difference, which I will admit is a let down, is the lack of flash light. The point of the game was to be scary and the flash light meant you couldn't always have the light on.

create a file called "autoexec.cfg" and put it with the default.cfg, put the following in it:

seta g_fov 100
seta r_lightscale 1
seta r_overbright 1
seta r_useShadowMapping 1
seta com_allowconsole 1

Will give it the original doom look and feel, wider fov, darker and better shadows. Also enables the console, so if you can bring up the console, you did it right.

As for the flash light, it's gone. Literally stripped from the game entirely so there is no easy way of bringing it back. I honestly think it was removed with spite. There was no reason to remove it entirely, they simply could have altered some defaults. Such a waste.
