What order should I watch it in? I'm currently watching Fourze, my first for the franchise, and I'm in love. Where should I go next?

General KR thread I guess, since all the others are focused on Drive.

First off sorry for the long post:
Gaim was one Hell of a ride(albeit some parts made no sense and everyone had their panties twisted up over the whole space fruit thing), W is pretty fun too, though, as of late, I can only go back to watch stuff with Eternal, not sure why(capes man, capes)…

OOO was one of the fucking absolute greatest Rides of my life when it comes to japanese-made content… I loved every second of him and have dedicated my life to living like pants-man…(the only downside is the fact they never had cakeboss team up with the main man, Maki, the slapstick would have been wonderful)

I never swam much in the waters of Kamen Rider other than that, Decade is good if you want to get confused while seeing old riders punch the shit out of each other, Ryuki was the OG Japanese Batman(fuck you Mr Lamperouge), Kabuto is Chuck Norris, which is fun. Den-O has a massive cult following and I love it but they should calm down with the fucking movies… also having to put up with the kid instead of Satoh is kind of a bummer, I wish they had just made Atarashii Den-O take the fucking mantle and become the LITERAL NEW DEN-O LIKE HIS NAME IMPLIES.

FUCK!

autism aside, Kiva is moderately good… I also like super sentai, there's a lot to go from there…

P.S: Kamen Rider X has starfish hitler, that's always good…

OOO had some of the greatest cast chemistry known to man. You could tell most of the cast loved hanging around each other and they were bro as fuck. Toei Hero Next was basically the studio throwing money at them to keep that team together in some form as long as possible.

The only problem is that this tends to detract from the actual plot. The cast fell so in love with Date's actor that the character went from having a six episode arc to being there for half a series. But with Date's arc stalling Gotou couldn't really grow either and things got ridiculous from there. Since Date was also supposed to give info on Eiji's character basically Eiji had to go to standstill as well.

They had to more or less totally rewrite the entire second half of the series, cut the entire final boss(who still had some magazine info come out, and a mention in one of the movies), and cut a few minor characters like the Ridevendors just to get back on track.

In all honesty though I think it was worth it. OOO's amazing chemistry and the dynamic the actors developed basically served as the basis for Fourze's dynamic the year after and ultimatley Drive's own dynamic between Shinnouske and Kiriko. Not to mention that it's legit fun to just watch them fuck around on the screen when you stop worrying about the plot.

Dear anon, we are now best friends based on mutual love for TaCoBar

NOTE: The rest of this post might contain spoilers, warning issued
OOO was my second kamen rider I actually watched through and through(my first was W, since I had this vague memory of black and wanted to look stuff up… though I did pause w for some good two years) And to this day it still speaks to me on a philosophical level. Take aside all the fun look at characters like Ankh, Eiji, Gotou and Date too, even Maki and all the Greeed, it's a journey, for all of them.
They all have goals they've all been subjected through great change and if you look at Eiji himself you start thinking "this guy is a kid, he's just fooling around"… then character development kicks you in the balls and tells you he's a kid because being an adult is heartbreaking, he's youthful because he once tried growing up too fast, and most of all he doesn't want anything because he's had it all and it was never what made him happy in the first place.

Whit that said, the whole "blurry vision" near the end of the show did really hit me… I think it's the first time it was done in Heisei, but I can't be sure… I know it was fucking amazing though…

OOO is and will remain the one "must watch" Kamen Rider, and I hope Drive follows in it's footsteps(I liked gaim but I gave up on it ever being "perfect" after watching the Kikaider episode… that shit made no sense)

I've seen Den-o, Kiva, Decade, and W. I'm currently watching OOO. Out of the Riders I've seen Kiva is my personal favorite.

I can understand why people might not like it because of the autism but it personally makes the MC more relatable. If nothing else his dad is a badass.

Fourze is a rather odd place to start. I guess it seems like the kind of show I'd show my sister to get her into Kamen Rider so I might see how that works out when the time comes.

 No.5012

Anyone else watch Kabuto and feel like Arata is actually the protagonist and Tendo is just some asshole he has to put up with?

 No.5016

>>5012

I think that's kinda the point.

Tendou is just a flat character who gives no fucks and knows exactly what he wants to do.

Kagami is the one that actually goes through an arc and develops as a character.

You even get this in the first episode, where Kagami takes the heroic camera angle and puts on the belt… only for Tendou to swoop in because fuck you Kagami.

The only problem was that the writers kinda bought into Tendou's hype while making everyone else into a joke. I mean TheBee and Drake were basically MIA in the second half and the hopper bros. and Sasword turned into joke characters right after their first fight. Even the final boss was explicitly a member of the Tendou fan club.

OP here. I'm glad I started with Fourze now. I finished Double a few days ago, and while it was great, Fourze did a lot to get me into it. Trying KR out, I assumed it would be cringeworthy kids stuff and I'd be watching it for the great fights I would see in gifs, but Fourze's cast managed to drag me past the cringe stuff at the beginning, and later on since I normally hate 'the power of friendship' ends, and got me to legitimately invest in the show and have a great time. While Double was a great, and might have had a tighter story throughout and actual character development across the board, I just didn't have as much fun as I did with Fourze. The fun was a big pull for me. So again, I'm really glad I started with Fourze.

I'm about to start OOO tomorrow, and reading this thread I"m looking forward to it even more.

Not really sure what they were thinking with Sasword. They outed him as a worm in his second episode, yet the antics of the sheltered twit just keep going. I honestly thought that was a big end of series reveal, not part of his introduction.

I'm watching the OOO/W movie right now, and can someone explain this to me? Eiji had some weird book-case for all the medals earlier too. Plus the stuff with Birth. The OOO section was written based on an earlier draft of the series, basically all that shit that happened with Nobunaga was going to happen to Date. But Date's actor is awesome and they all wanted him to stick around, resulting in a rewrite.

Oh, so Date was originally going to appear in the movie? I did think it was weird how he showed up at the end of the episode right before the movie premiered. I'm surprised he had that much charisma to change everything just from shooting scenes for the movie.

 No.5676

>>5673
Not sure about him being in the movie, but I've been led to believe his arc in the series would have been similar to Nobunaga's arc in the movie, just stretched across episodes instead of twenty minutes.

OOO greatest strength was the chemistry between the actors. Ankh and Eiji went of freaking man dates.

So what's the importance behind grasshoppers? I know that the first Kamen Rider was designed after a grasshopper, and just about every one of the neo-heisei shows I've watched so far have at least once grasshopper monster, which I figure is a refrence to the first KR.

So why'd they go with grasshoppers in the first place?

The motif was originally going to be a skull and Kamen Rider was a fucking psychopath. The execs liked the general idea but asked Ishinomori to tone it down and use a different motif. He observed that children liked bugs so he figured that'd be a good alternative to skulls.

Almost done with OOOs, just finished the movie. Why does such a great series have such mediocre-to-bad movies?

 No.6689

>>5673

I think you don't get just HOW much chemistry was going on during OOO.

I mean if you check back on the casts blog posts they loved every waking minute of every day spending time with each other and the show went through numerous rewrites just to give them as much screentime with each other as they could get.

The rewrites to make this happen were pretty much constant. Date's actor is a bro, so his six episode role turned into like 20 episodes. Ankhs actor is also a bro, so they ditched a whole toy and rewrote his entire arc just to give him screen time. Satonaka's actor is a bro, so suddenly she goes from being a secretary to full combat just to keep her around more, and the whole ridevendor squad sits around with their thumbs in their asses.

On one hand this means that day to day the episodes can be fun as shit and it's always great to just watch them play off each other.

On the other it means you wound up with like a third of the series where nothing happened and nobody can really progress, since Date can no longer die and Ankh's life and death thing falls to the wayside. It gets better as you kick into high gear but at one point the plot literally moves backwards as they lose powerups and first half villains come back.

It also means the OOO movies wound up being basically impossible to work with because they were going off the original series plan. Hence the Greeed talking about characters that don't exist everyone acting kinda funny.

A whole lot of people complained just because it was a sharp come down after W and super notable since Fourze returned to W's form. Those two series had a tight plan and tight continuity that OOO could never manage.

 No.6690

>>6689

On that note, anyone know why they completley changed the goth chicks character in Fourze? She went from being a creepy lesbian stalker to meteors waifu and had basically nothing inbetween for the 20 or so episodes from point A to B. Every other part of the cast had something but not her.

 No.6716

Well, I finished OOOs. The finale easily made up for the movies. It's easily my favorite KR series so far, which granted isn't saying much since I've only watched this, W, Fourze, and some of the orginal.

That said though I actually gotta say I really liked the story Apart from times when Kaito jobs I liked the idea of street dancing gangs/factions(?) going against each other with Inves and then Rider Belts to slowly Overlords trying to take over the world. I was even shocked when I found out who Sagara was and what happened to Mai, Heck I was even impressed with the whole fruit motif. May not have been the best idea to start toku but I'm glad I finished it

shit, I forgot to watch the thread… but yeah, OOO was the best, I actually fell back on it and rewatched it recently after my mom passed earlier this year… Heck, it saved me again, I guess at this point he's that ONE character that can't go wrong, he's been miserable yet he manages to be goofy and aloof, Eiji is an ideal to strive for, pretty much like every rider shoul be in their own way, to be perfectly honest…

With that said Drive's being good too, Chase's arc is gearing up(ZING) to something spectacular and Drive and Mach are not bad characters either, they can be fun and serious, and that's an A+ in my book…
