At least the Zaku (at least Char's variant) is playable in every OYW Gundam game that doesn't lock you into just THE Gundam.

Capule/Kapool is rarely playable, and gimped hard when it is (In Battle Universe it's an underwater specialist MS that can't be used in space for a faction that doesn't have a single underwater mission and is mostly space).

OP, let me tell you about Jane and Joe Everyman.

They are the pilots in the gundam shows who don't have names. Every Zeon, Feddie, Axis, PLANT, OZ, Mobile Fighter… All of them. The ones who aren't known or named.

They are heroes. They fight for their own reasons, they live by the laws of their people, and they serve their government and their population. They go into battle knowing that death awaits them, knowing that every sortie could be their last. And they go anyway. When the Gundam arrives, they sortie, knowing they have no chance, knowing they will die, they launch even though death will find them today. They try, not because they think they'll win, and not because it is worth it to defy the battle god that has come amongst them to reap and slaughter. They fight because it is their duty, and it is their oath to uphold that duty in the face of the direst threat.

Joe and Jane Everyman fight on all the sides of the war because everyone can be them. Cheer for them, Anons, cheer for the people who go into war because there is a need for them. Cheer for the patriot and the mercenary, the loyalist and the rebel, the soldier of the people and the servant of the mighty. Cheer for the soldier, cheer for the Zaku, sing for the GM, the Leo, and every grunt suit.

Except the Genoace, laugh at that one 'cuz its made of mega blocks.

And it's because of this I will always have a fondness for Captain Char. He treated his soldiers like human beings, he remembered their names. Graham Acre in season 1 of 00 was like that too - when he lost one of his men he swore revenge against the gundams he held to be responsible.

The nameless and faceless don't get those commanders, many of the nameless who have faces still go unremembered, unremarked. That's why we have to always try to keep in mind Jane and Joe Everyman, the pilots we don't get to meet.

Psychic shit does not a super robot make and the power of music wasn't even a thing beyond symbolizing culture shock until Macross II. VFs are not superpowered hero machines, they're pretty baseline in universe.
