As to why you should buy from Bandai - Bandai owns the rights to the Gundam metaseries, their model kits are generally preferred due to superior quality and animation accuracy. Third party model kits may be cheaper or have a specific MS model kit that Bandai doesn't but because they're not the official model kits they may hove some detailing issues or low build quality.
Tools needed are sprue cutters, a hobby file,a hobby knife, needle-nosed tweezers, 1000 grit sandpaper, and if you're really taken by an older model kits, glue and screwdrivers. A Tamiya Basic Tool Set will solve most beginner's issues.
High Grades (HGXX) being 1/144th scale model kits with reasonable detail and are easy to build - though some kits are not beginner friendly
the NZ-999 Neo Zeong being a prime exampleSuper Deformed (SD) model kits are the quintessential cute design often used in side works, recommended for extremely unskilled beginners due to the insultingly easy building process.
Master Grades (MG) are 1/100th scale and have a significant amount of detail, not really recommended for beginners. Stay away from Version Ka MGs until you're confident with what you're doing.
Real Grades (RG) are 1/144th scale kits with the same level of detail as MGs. Difficult to build properly and are not really beginner friendly. Not much variety as it's a newer grade.
Perfect Grades (PG) 1/60th scale kits. Very detailed and difficult to build. A very limited series despite being an older one. Often come with a gimmick.
Mega Sized kits are 1/48th scale and are extremely limited in terms of selection. Highly detailed and generally not recommended for beginners.
Non-Graded kits (NG) are often older kits in 1/100th scale or the like, antiquated mobility and prop options should keep most away from ungraded kits. Diehard fans won't give much of a shit, however.
RE-100 kits are a new line of non MG 1/100th scale kits that exist to give less popular suits or suits that would have unfeasible amounts of detail a 1/100th scale option. A relatively new line of kits.

>The only gundam anime that I watch from start to finish is Seed and DestinyGood Lord. The SEED series and Gundam AGE are easily the weakest in the metaseries. Watch some Universal Century stuff or other timelines. Most Americans started with either G Gundam, 08thMS Team, or Wing Gundam. I would recommend those, Zeta Gundam, or After War Gundam X. Don't watch Turn A Gundam until after you've seen most of the series.
>I don't really watch Gundam anime at all, I just think the mech look coolThe best part of gunpla building is building a mobile suit that you truly enjoy. Not just for looks, understanding the lore behind the model kit makes building one that much more satisfying. I suggest that you watch some of the anime to decide on a kit.
