>tfw video games can no longer filled the void.

Hello /m/en, not really a regular on /m/ but suddenly today I feel curious about model kit. Video games are getting boring for me and I can no longer find joy in them, but I always been fascinated by model kit. Its one of those thing that always interest you but you never have the time to try it.

I guess the time has come for me to make this as my main hobby I'm still gonna play video game but I will focus more of my free time and extra cash for building model kit

I build one when I was a teenager but the it came out rather poorly mainly because I dont have the proper tools and have no idea what I was doing. So I ended up breaking parts that I wasn't suppose to break it looked fucking horrible. Thats when I decided to go full video games instead.

So I need some help to guide me to the right direction about building a model kit.

First off, what are the tools you usually need? Like cutting the pieces and to smooth out the rough edges. A youtube video explaining it would be nice.

Secondly, what a the grading on the box mean? Like master grade and perfect grade etc. How many grades are there?

Thirdly, what are the best model kit brand? I thought only Bandai make gundam model kit but it turned out that there are other company that makes it too just found this out recently

How do you display your creation? Do you put it on a shelf in the open or do you have some special display case specifically for model kit? I dont want to put in the open because the dust gonna be a bitch to clean off.

Sorry if my question seems stupid and full of newfaggotry to you guys.

p.s: I don't really watch Gundam anime at all, I just think the mech look cool. The only gundam anime that I watch from start to finish is Seed and Destiny, and I don't even know what the fuck is going on in that show. I like Mospeada and Patlabor though, too bad its really rare to see their model kit

Go to >>4273, it's the current gunpla/plamo/ model kit thread. Be sure to look through the catalog to see if a thread topic exists before posting what could be considered duplicates.

As to why you should buy from Bandai - Bandai owns the rights to the Gundam metaseries, their model kits are generally preferred due to superior quality and animation accuracy. Third party model kits may be cheaper or have a specific MS model kit that Bandai doesn't but because they're not the official model kits they may hove some detailing issues or low build quality.

Tools needed are sprue cutters, a hobby file,a hobby knife, needle-nosed tweezers, 1000 grit sandpaper, and if you're really taken by an older model kits, glue and screwdrivers. A Tamiya Basic Tool Set will solve most beginner's issues.

High Grades (HGXX) being 1/144th scale model kits with reasonable detail and are easy to build - though some kits are not beginner friendly the NZ-999 Neo Zeong being a prime example
Super Deformed (SD) model kits are the quintessential cute design often used in side works, recommended for extremely unskilled beginners due to the insultingly easy building process.
Master Grades (MG) are 1/100th scale and have a significant amount of detail, not really recommended for beginners. Stay away from Version Ka MGs until you're confident with what you're doing.
Real Grades (RG) are 1/144th scale kits with the same level of detail as MGs. Difficult to build properly and are not really beginner friendly. Not much variety as it's a newer grade.
Perfect Grades (PG) 1/60th scale kits. Very detailed and difficult to build. A very limited series despite being an older one. Often come with a gimmick.
Mega Sized kits are 1/48th scale and are extremely limited in terms of selection. Highly detailed and generally not recommended for beginners.
Non-Graded kits (NG) are often older kits in 1/100th scale or the like, antiquated mobility and prop options should keep most away from ungraded kits. Diehard fans won't give much of a shit, however.
RE-100 kits are a new line of non MG 1/100th scale kits that exist to give less popular suits or suits that would have unfeasible amounts of detail a 1/100th scale option. A relatively new line of kits.

Good Lord. The SEED series and Gundam AGE are easily the weakest in the metaseries. Watch some Universal Century stuff or other timelines. Most Americans started with either G Gundam, 08thMS Team, or Wing Gundam. I would recommend those, Zeta Gundam, or After War Gundam X. Don't watch Turn A Gundam until after you've seen most of the series.

The best part of gunpla building is building a mobile suit that you truly enjoy. Not just for looks, understanding the lore behind the model kit makes building one that much more satisfying. I suggest that you watch some of the anime to decide on a kit.

Oh, didn't know there was a general for gunpla. Thanks for the advice though, guess I'll start at building SD model kits.

Another question, is the anime connected to each other or stand alone like Final Fantasy series?

 No.5328

>>5327
The anime's timeline is connect as far as individual timelines go.

Universal Century shows (animes/OVAs/movies) include (In-universe chronology):
Mobile Suit Gundam
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team
0080: War in the Pocket
0083: Stardust Memory
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
Mobile Suit Gundam F91
Mobile Suit Victory Gundam
G Savior though technically as canon as Gaia Gear to the Gundam franchise, it's still a Universal Century piece and is a shitty live-action 90's movie

Reguild Century shows include:
Gundam Reconguista in G (ongoing, Japan only)

Future Century shows include:
Mobile Fighter G Gundam

After War shows include:
After War Gundam X

Anno Domini shows include
Mobile Suit 00 Gundam
Mobile Suit 00 Gundam A Wakening of the Trailblazer

After Colony shows include:
New Mobile Report Gundam Wing
New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz

Advanced Generation shows include
Mobile Suit Gundam AGE

Cosmic Era, you know that well enough.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny
**
Correct Century shows include
Turn A Gundam
Turn A is the end result of all Gundam series, which is why it should be watched last

Gunpla Builders timeline:
Model Suit Gunpla Builders Beginning G

Gundam Build Fighters timeline:
Gundam Build Fighters
Gundam Build Fighters Try

All SD Gundam shows/ Gundam-san are parody and are technically non-canon.

Wait, are you telling me that they all set in the same universe?

 No.5351

>>5337
It's hard to say there is evidence for both sides.

 No.5361

>>5337
Yes. All Gundam shows at the time of the production of Turn-A were shown to be part of Turn-A's history. Bandai has since stated, in the Master Grade Turn-X gunpla manual, that the series made after Turn-A are also in that same timeline.

This creates many inconsistencies and raises hundreds of questions. Many people reject this outright, others rationalize the inconsistencies away by saying that the events as-shown are not the "true" history, and others imagine that parallel alternate realities merging somehow makes more sense than a single timeline with unexplained events.
