How is Seed+Destiny one of the most popular series in its home country but so hated in the west?

 No.5538

11s have shit taste dude.

>popular series in its home country but so hated in the west?

Character drama, melodrama and Jesus Yamato and Lacus Clayne being right.

What Durandal was trying to
achieve with destiny plan should had been occurred naturally , given the nature of the setting.

 No.5639

I liked them. Destiny a bit less than SEED, but still not bad. I even made a ZAFT flag in the flags thread, but it doesn't look like it will be used.

It just seems to be "board culture" to hate CE. The biggest complaints are actually pretty flimsy. The usual "Jesus Yamato" meme is based on the false assertion that Kira survived a nuke twice. Surviving (non-nuclear) Aegis detonating outside of Kira's damaged cockpit is actually less bullshit than Heero surviving Wing detonatig when he was standing on the cockpit hatch with no protection at all. The blast in Destiny was from the Tannhauser hitting the water, but people still insist Freedom's reactor exploded despite the torso being intact and seeing Kira with his fingers on the emergency shut-off for the reactor.
Apparently people find it hard to accept the possibility that the majority of haters are mistaken and it's easier to go along with the crowd than to reconsider exactly why what they *think* happened doesn't make sense.

The "Dullindal was right" angle jumps to the conclusion that totalitarianism would actually mean no more wars ever and ignores the possibility of resistance and revolt. They also assume that THIS time Dullindal isn't lying/plotting to increase his own influence but actually has everyone's best interests at heart.

And finally the "they forgot Shinn was supposed to be the MC" overlooks the fact that the writer said (before production) that the new central character would have a thin presence and (after airing) that her intention was always to have Shinn lose everything but Lunamaria in the end.

Reused footage/flashbacks?
Yeah, that's a legit complaint, as is Hiraiface and the excessive length of Impulse's launch/combination sequence (though I guess that's covered under "reused footage".

>"Dullindal was right"

I never felt that during watching seed destiny. Maybe those who say should read Brave New
World or watch Gatteca

>"they forgot Shinn was supposed to be the MC"

.
To be honest from ep 2 I felt it as Athrun who was the MC this time. Haven't seen the remaster movie but I have read it is from his POV.

Having watched the show start to finish. I have to say that it is pretty bad. It has good moments… But the writing was just god awful all the way through. Some of the ms designs were nice, but the side stories were better than the actual main show.

 No.5648

Japan really enjoys perfect always right high school age characters. Make them look fairly generic and relatable, make them indubitably in the right, make them wanked, and then just let them run around correcting everything wrong until all the problems in their world just go away.

It's like a mary sue, but written for the audience to self insert instead of the writer. Then you just crank up that merchandising machine, get a popular idol to sing a song for the op, and release them into the world. Japan is just really, really crazy about self insert characters and "if only my highschool years were like this" writing.

That's because japan overall has the mindset that you should give up everything childish after college, so everyone wastes their high school years prepping for college and then they are "supposed" to give up everything fun after college so they can work and support a family.

Not only that but gender roles are much more heavily enforced by society there, so men have to be mindless, hard working providing machines and women have to be loyal baby-making machines.

It's not surprising that the rebellion towards these mindsets is often a little extreme and childish. It's why they still have Akihabara as their escapist paradise.

I think the Okkusenman song perfectly captures what it's like to be a twenty-something japanese person.

I like Destiny better since I think Seed was boring while Destiny was crazier and fun. However neither is a good story.

Only in the mainstream, is it popular. You can say the same for more casual anime fans (there are a lot of Gundam SEED fans in the west that don't even know UC exists.) If you go somewhere like 2ch or 2chan, where the more hardcore Gunota wank around, they tend to have a lot of the same problems with it that we do.

Unless you're talking Gunpla. SEED Gunpla sells really well, but I think that has to do with the fact that SEED and SEED Destiny tend to get really high quality Gunpla for whatever reason…

 No.5895

>>5537
SEED isn't that bad its one of the worse gundam series but its still totally watchable. I would say its popularity increase in japan is from normalfags and not gunota.

>>5685
I always heard from totally non-trustworthy sources that Strike and Freedom had pretty good sales and other suits failed to sell well

 No.5900

I always liked mecha because it seemed to have a setting detached from the present world. Gundam always had another world unlike our own in many ways but with people like us. SEED is different (to me) in this respect in that it inserts that oh so Japanese setting that plagued anime in the 00s where it centered around high school drama, pretty women, and hyper merchandising. It never "felt" like it was building its own world. Instead, the world was forming around the characters which rubbed me the wrong way.

I think because of seed gundam will always be a bit more "normal" compared to the anime cliches of the time its made unless tomino keeps making gundam because he doesn't give a fuuuuck.

The strike is a very good designs. It's not surprising it would do well.

The more I hear about their situation the more I think they are fucked. You really gotta have some stupid fun, just don't over do it.

Isn't that still going on? The high school and pretty women in anime thing.

>Isn't that still going on? The high school and pretty women in anime thing.

Maybe it's just me but I think shows are finally letting up on the Highschool setting. After so many years and shows the Japs must finally be getting tired of it.

Fair enough. I haven't been paying too much attention to recent anime despite meaning to. At least for the mech anime.

 No.5928

SEED was good.

I hate how much useless Cagali was rendered in destiny.

-helpless princess gave in to demands of a douchebag
-kidnapped by Kira , later wonder why ORD not listening to her in battlefield
-Now lacks piloting skills
-Does shit with Papa Atha's hidden not-hyaku shiki, later used by Mu La Flaga
-Stays on earth during final battle in space.

What happened the the girl who led a bunch of rebel gurilla in SEED ?

 No.5936

instead of presenting their point of view , blue cosmos become evil cartoo-villain Doctor X who used drug-addicted pilots to fight against co-ordinators,led by triger happy leaders who see battles as their amusement. At least the rose foundation in wing had better goal and leaders.

 No.5939

>>5936
I can't remember the rose foundation having any clear goal.

Assuming you're referring to Romefeller.

They never state it directly, but it's pretty obvious they're war profiteers. Romefeller invented mobile suits and are their principle manufacturers, The Specials, a group backed by Romefeller, was responsible for their widespread adoption. When the alliance was planning on cutting back their military budget Romefeller got Trieze to manipulate the Gundam pilots to have them killed, ensuring further demand for their services.

Because Morosawa (the head writer) was convinced that Cagalli's VA was coming on to her husband (director Mitsuo Fukuda).

Marginalizing the character, then cutting her out entirely was her "retaliation."

A woman wrote that show? No wonder it was shit.

That is terrible, but at the same time I can believe it. That kind of thing would always be a worry; happy for the VA couple who met in that show, though.

Why would anyone want to cheat on this beautiful women!

 No.6253

Thanks to this thread, I've decided to completely skip SEED and DESTINY and move right onto Evolve.

Speaking of which, does anyone have the 2014/2015 gundam guide?
