I'm pretty much a casual if it comes to mecha but I'd like to explore a bit more of the genre. So far the only shows I've seen are the more popular ones, Gainax shows like Gunbuster (liked a lot), Eva (loved), Diebuster (meh) Tengen Toppa (liked again). Add to that Code Geass (disliked) and if it counts, GiTS (love the whole franchise).

Thing is I don't just want to watch anything. I'd like something that has some of the things I liked in Eva, specifically the surreal or just weird aesthetics (angels, third impact in EoE) and the mind-screwy plot. I like stuff like that in any genre, one of my other favorite shows - Serial Experiments Lain has lots of that and so do many of my favorite books/games/films etc. So what would be a good show that would fit this description?

Texhnolyze , Ergo Proxy , and Gasaraki, Memories might be up to your alley.

You can check out not/m/shows like Boogiebop Phantom,Paranoia Agent , Paprika , Perfect Blue and Angel's Egg .

Seen all of those besides Gasaraki, but thanks. That's why I asked for mecha shows specifically since my library is rather extensive and I've seen lots of the non/m/ surreal, mind-screwy shows.

You can also check out /m/anga like Blame!, Biomega , Abara and other Nihei stuff.

While not surreal, Original Gundam saga fromm 0079 to Char's counter attack does stuff which EVA did in more surreal and mind screwy way.

Mandatory Ideon , Gunbuster and Royal space force also mentioned.

Fuck it , forgot to mention Big O!

Read all of those, Blame is one of my top three favorite manga actually. Gunbuster I've seen as I mentioned, Royal Space too. I don't think they really had surreal elements though, so does Ideon and Big O have them?

I don't really get why you clasify shows like texhnolyze, ergo proxy, memories or royal space as mecha. I don't remember any in these shows/films. I guess memories had some, but it was rather a small element of the story.

Well /m/ used to discuss stuff with cyborg and space ships . Dunno how is it here , considering war between toku is /m/ and not /m/ has been put to end here.

Cannot spoil Big O and Ideon is famous for pulling mecha induced apocalypse at the end and a movie to elaborate those events, just like NGE and EoE.

Well, what's left? FLCL. Since it's famous , you have seen it already.

> Diebuster

> meh

At least you'd probably admit that the OP/ED are catchy, right?

 No.5627

>>5622
Oh, makes more sense now. So just out of curiosity, is Lain considered mecha? And yeah, I've seen FLCL
>>5623
I've been thinking about xenogears but heard it has a screwed up second part. Is that true?
>>5625
It's not like I felt insulted by the fact, just confused. It actually makes me glad, since I'm a sci-fi fan in general and a /cyber/fag, so this board might actually be more interesting for me. Since I've seen lots of stuff like that.
>>5626
Yeah, it was damn fine. Though I think haven't heard an un-catchy Gainax OP.

 No.5641

OP , do you maintain any anime or manga list on MAL or hummingbird ?
It will help us to know what you may have seen already and may recommend /m/ stuff which are good, which may not fulfill your criteria as you might be done with it and want to see other things.

Yes, I do. Here's my HB account since it's more up to date.

Thanks will check it out, though I'm more interested in a giant robot series specifically.
>>5663
Is it better than Jin-Roh? I liked the film but but not overly.

 No.5694

>>5692
Story wise it is continuation of Jin-roh.

It's pretty "Oshii" - slow paced and surreal. Worth giving a try.
