Relative newcomer to mecha stuff, got done watching this a little while ago. Thought it was pretty good overall (huge fan of the unique mecha designs and the music is awesome) but I'm still confused on some aspects of the plot, especially the ending.

What does /m/ make of The Big O?

I first saw it when Bandai was showing off the dub on the con circuit. They had it at a comic/anime/whatever con when it was pretty new. I don't know of there being fansubs at that point even if it wasn't quite as casual a crowd, but nobody, myself included, knew anything about it.

A comic/anime mix crowd was about the perfect group to hit with Batman The Animated Series The Robot Anime. We loved the ep or two they showed.

Basically, they went full meta at the end (all thanks to that edgy memester Konaka). The world is literally a stage for the show and the characters are actors (and at the same time, they're not as show in ep. 14). I hated the retconning of what was established in S1 (wars before the 40 years, and the memories being fake) but I guess the writers decided to do the show differently by S2

Either way, S3 when?

I would have thought they would have gone for everyone is an android that exists for a play or something along those lines with the 40 years thing if they wanted to go that way. Otherwise, everything is really, really dumb.

If you pay closer attention, you'll notice that the show doesn't really differentiate between advanced androids - like Dorothy and that wealthy android client in S2 - and humans since they have memories just like humans. That's why Roger over the course of the show starts to see Dorothy as a human in subtle ways. In the episode Daemonseed, Roger asks a hesitant Dorothy why she's not getting on the elevator and when she does and is unable to because of her heavy weight as an android, Roger remarks "sorry, I forgot".

I can't unsee this shit, kek.

Yeah, that is kind of where I was going. Plus how well some of the characters seemed to have held up. I was really suspicious, there were so many ways to go that were better.

I wish they would've have crammed the mystery of the shown and condensed it into 1 season for season 2. I really fucking wish they reconsider a season 3 or a reboot. A reboot based off of Katayama's original vision of MotW w/ condensed stories in each episode + character development would be fucking great

*wouldn't have crammed

Iirc, season 2 wasn't supposed to happen, which is why it's so different

No, season 2 was always planned. They stopped at season 1 because of low jap viewership but CN saved it. The reason season 2 was somewhat fucked was because of the new head writer konaka, who's known to make gainax-ending level shit like Lain.

>new head writer konaka, who's known to make gainax-ending level shit like Lain

Now it all makes sense, about why season 2 makes no sense.
