Was hesitant to post this in fear of shitting up a board I don't venture much into, but would /m/ mind in showing the way to someone who's interested in tokusatsu but has no idea on where to begin?

The movie is about humans and robots living together.

It's certainly /m/. Keep in mind that Mecha covers a broader range of material in the japanese definition then the meaning over here.

As such, you will find stuff like Cyberformula, Horizon in the middle of nowhere, scry-ed, Yamato 2199, Galaxy Express 999,Captain Harlock, Yukikaze, Logh, Toward the Terra, in rec pics or /m/ related subjects.

Well the OVAs were produced before the TV however the movies finished long after the TV series so in terms of production order I would say the OVA timeline would be first so its probably best to watch it that way.
