So the makers of Age of Empires are making a Mecha RTS with loot

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12aFT4zb8_M

http://www.servogame.com/

Might B cool.

 No.6696

This does look pretty cool, though the buildings are really reminding me of supreme commander/planetary annihilation…

 No.6701

It reminds me of part of how Metal Fatigue worked, I think. That was one of those games that I would love to see on GOG, so I am optimistic for it.

 No.6705

Looks about as generic as it could be.

 No.6706

Those animations are really weak and the game doesn't seem very interesting. It really seems to be suffering from a lack of fresh ideas and a lack of budget.

 No.6708

It'll never replace Total Annihilation in my heart. Hopefully it'll be cool though.

Supposedly Stardock is focusing on funding games with good gameplay, over large teams with pretty games. That said I think that Ashes of the singularity got all the budget. I'll post that next.

Stardock is also making this:

http://www.ashesofthesingularity.com/

>With the media watching Stardock pulled back the veil on a real time strategy game that has the potential to redefine the genre as we see it. With the Nitrous Engine at the heart, Ashes of the Singularity hopes to bring us into the most epic war we have seen yet. Where most RTS games put you into a single battle, Ashes of the Singularity wants to throw you into a full scale war, where the battles you will fight are just part of an ongoing war that you win or lose.

>In Ashes of the Singularity, players can take command of the forces of either the post-humans or those of Haalee. This is a galaxy-wide struggle in which each ‘battle’ wages across the surface of an entire planet. The scope of the conflict is unlike anything players have seen before.

It looks a little too much like Assfaggots for my liking.

The swords on the melee weapons look weak. Some of the design work could be better on the mechs.

The good news: They promise it's not an assfaggots, but a true RTS it has base building and shit. The bad news: Sounds like it is an RTS, with loot and light rpg elements slapped on it. Becuase slapping loot on an unrelated genre works so well (looking at you Borderlands)

 No.6929

I kinda feel like they slapped shooter elements into a loot based rpg and then added some reddit memes more than added loot to a shooter.

That is a lot of hover units. Though the land battleship idea is kinda cool, I guess.

 No.6999

That looks sexy.

>new breed of RTS
>looks just like Metal Fatigue
Well, I will reserve my judgment till it comes out. If this is anything like Metal Fatigue I will play the shit out of it.

The president of Stardock likes comparing it to starcraft, but he could just be talking shit.

This is going to be a tough question but which of your current offerings is your most favorite?

>Oh gosh, that’s almost impossible to answer. I’ll tell you how they appeal to different sides of me. I was hoping to get into masters in this season of Starcraft, I’m a really heavy Starcraft player, although I didn’t get into masters. Servo appeals to that Starcraft side of me. One of the reasons why we were trying to keep Servo under the covers for so long is because once you see Servo, everyone who makes RTS’s is going to go ‘of course, this is how it should be done.’ because in Servo, you design your units outside the game and then you bring them in.

>loot based science fiction RTS.
NO NO NO NO NO. Please no. That's the garbage that spawned the cancer we know as MOBAs

They need to go back to base-building RTS, and in a historical setting.

>They need to go back to base-building RTS,
There is base building.

 No.7068

What is worrying is the idea that it is Metal Fatigue but less. The idea of designing units outside of combat has been done before, iirc, but it is one that could be really, really bad with the loot focus.

 No.7069

>>7068
This guy. Metal Fatigue light might be a great option though, one of the issues that metal fatigue ran into was that you would end up having to flood the underground with tanks when the focus is on the robots in all the marketing. So this is like that but with a more multiplayer focus, and an eye towards developing your own heroes and stories instead of just Jonas, Diego or Stefan (Mil-Agro all the way).

 No.7078

>>7069
I have questions as to how they are going to deal with the story with set missions and "choose your own" paths or whatever in single player. I'll still keep an eye on this, though. More mech games are always appreciated especially when they aren't just the standard games with a mech skin thrown on.

New, (okay, newish, I need to post on /m/ more frequently) story on it.

http://nichegamer.com/2015/03/customize-and-build-the-perfect-mecha-army-in-servo-an-evolving-and-engaging-rts/

Stardock has done good games in the past, and I just hope it's decent, even if it lacks budget.

>Servo has been in development for just under a year, and the while the core mechanics for the game came together very rapidly, the style didn’t come right away. Their concept artist did a piece for the game that had huge mechs fighting monsters in a cityscape, upon which BonusXP instantly thought it was a match for the game. They approached Stardock with the prototype and the theme, and Stardock agreed. “If you don’t like giant robots fighting each other, Servo’s not going to convince you that that’s awesome,” said Pottinger. “We’re not trying to attract somebody who’s not interested in that. There’s a lot of people who say ‘that’s exactly what I want,’ and we want to make them happy.”

I like this thinking.
