I never liked the Jap Godzillas so Godzilla 1998 was pretty cool for me.

It wouldn't have been half as bad, but it still would've had awful CGI, scenes ripped pretty much straight from Jurassic Park, a pretty non-threatening monster, and a military that caused more destruction than the monster itself.

Oh, and uninteresting human characters, but that's not exactly an unforgivable sin in monster movies.

I don't know understand why they wasted a pretty solid actor that was riding on fame from a pretty successful and well known series by killing him so early to have a soldier that is just there. He was over acting ridiculously, but that was at least fucking entertaining.

Both western Godzilla films sucked dick. The latest didn't have fucking Broderick as the lead, so that's a plus, but at least the 98 one had zilla show up for more than five minutes of fucking run time.

So, lots of a bad zilla with awful actors, or five seconds of a good godzilla, in the pitch black, with pretty much boring and pointless actors? It's hard to pick. Either way, we lose.

Godzilla Final Wars was awesome. That's how you do modern Godzilla, stop giving a fuck about anything and just go all out. Neither of the western movies had nearly enough alien ninja fights and landmark destruction.

2014 Godzilla was going for what the original 1954 Godzilla did so well. A lot of people forget that Godzilla actually didn't have much screentime in that movie, and the focus was on humanity's reaction to him.

The problem is that they went way overboard. Plus, the whole "Godzilla as a destructive force of nature" thing was kind of lost considering this was one of the more noble portrayals of Big G that we've seen, when you actually look at his actions throughout the movie.

But it's still way better than the '98 movie because we at least got monster action that didn't absolutely suck (it's just most of it wasn't Godzilla), atomic breath, Godzilla that doesn't hide from the fucking military (by running through the subways…?), and a fight at the end that was pretty cool. Zilla was just awful all-around.
