You know how in most cases protagonist and his buddies have some special unit, that easily outperforms mass produced enemy robots and only can be matched by rival's/elite enemies/final boss?

But what are the franchises that have this thing around?
Where main character and party use mass-produced/commonly used units to fight against genetically/mechanically superior special snowlfakes in all sorts of unique and pimped up gundams? Where winning can only be achieved through hard training, planning and team work?

I can only think of Front Mission and Votoms. And to a lesser degree Armored Core, since it's usually 1-on-1.

Asymmetric stuff like Macross or traditional Robots vs Monsters set up doesn't count obviously.

 No.7570

I wouldn't even count Votoms since Chirico is one of those superior special snowflakes.

Technically, AC isn't that because the main character mechs are better than the grunts, even in ACV. It is just that there tends to be entire organizations filled with them, and their goals are all conflicting so they murder each other. The main character is also generally implied to be like >>7570 so it doesn't work. They do fight stuff of a higher caliber, though.

Assault Suits Valken and all the various takes on that franchise are what you are talking about, though. They could be seen as asymmetrical, though, I guess.

Mechwarrior 2 and 3 if you only used canon variants. Even if you do mess with the MechLab it's still pretty even.

Vifam, actually. The Vifam itself, despite being what the show is named after, is mass-produced and doesn't have anything in particular going for it.

I haven't actually watched much of the anime, just a few eps because a friend of mine is super into it, but maybe Patlabor would count? All the police mechs are identical but in some eps they fight crazy giant industrial construction mechs or straight up military grade labours that outclass them.

Hard to say, police labors are pretty damn advanced. What they lack in power they make up for in other areas. They're nearly identical to the military grade helldivers outside of the integrated 40mm gun.

I liked how lunar resistance converted the mining robots into make-shift weapons.

And power armors !
