 No.48442

Hello and welcome to the first ever waifu-bro Secret Santa! This is a collaborate event intended for participants of both /mai/ and /waifu/, as is fitting for the holiday season if the British and German soldiers of 1914 on the western front could have a ceasfire on Christmas, then we can damn well get along during the holiday season too! Although in no way mandatory, everyone is encouraged to participate in some manner. With that, I will answer some questions you all may have in regards to how we'll be enacting this all out

>what is a secret santa event?

For those of you that are unaware, a secret santa event is one where the participants are randomly assigned a person from the group to give a gift while another group member is assigned to give that person a gift. While you know who you are assigned to give your gift to, the person of whom you are receiving a gift from is to remain a secret until you actually receive your gift.

>can I participate even if I can't spend any money?

YES. We will have a “free” option for waifu-fags that are unable to spend any money. People in this group will be able to exchange gifts that wont cost them any money through email or private messages, such as drawings or creative writing.

>how are you all going to have this all set up?

Everyone that wants to participate will need to make a response in this thread with their waifu AND send an email to the provided email address (throwaway email accounts like cock.li emails are fine, so long as you can retain access of it) with all of the necessary information. Our reasoning for this is to allow for moderators to check your posting history and make sure you aren't someone with no posting history that is merely trying to cause conflict in the secret santa event such as getting a gift without sending one out. We reserve the right to refuse anyone from participating in the event if we have reason enough to believe that you aren't trustworthy. In your email (read: NOT the post you make in the thread), you will need to provide the following information: who your waifu is, what your budget is, what kind of gifts you deem acceptable and unacceptable (please try to make sure all of these are things that fit in your budget, as if you were going to be buying them yourself, and be more general with the types of gifts you want instead of linking ONE SPECIFIC gift if at all possible. You wouldn't want to ruin the surprise, would you?), your address OR your PO box/similar mail receiver OR if you prefer to receive online-only gifts along with any appropriate contact/profile information, and finally what waifu-related merchandise you already own (so as to avoid getting a gift you already have).

>what determines who my secret santa is?

Everyone is going to be grouped up based on the maximum amount of money they are willing to spend, with one other slot being for folks in the free slot. For example, we could have 4 members willing to spend $40, $40, $35 and $30. With that, we would make that group the $30 group. Obviously, what the actually grouping will be will depend on many factors such as how many participants we get and what everyone's budget is.

>how can I be sure that my information is kept safe?

Yuno-bro is going to be taking everyone's information through email and doing the bulk of the work, while homu-bro (me) will act as a helping hand that helps him keep things organized and walks him through it all. The only people who will be getting any of your information will be Yuno-bro and your secret santa. Unless you specify otherwise, we can have any possible packages in the mail be addressed to “[waifu] bro”. For those who do not wish for others to have their address, we are allowing the use of a PO box or a similar receiver of mail such as an “Amazon Locker” http://www.findlocker.com/amazon-lockers-all . If even using one of those doesn't make you feel secure enough, we have allowed for an “online-only” gifts option for things such as art commissions or other digital gifts such as games from Steam or GOG. Please leave any appropriate contact/profile information if you are allowing gifts of that nature.

Part 1/2

 No.48443

>>48442

Part 2/2

>what if someone's waifu is a character with no official merchandise

If that is the case then there are still some options available for you. You could get them a custom print gift from artscow or any other website/store that does custom prints (watches, wallet photos, pillows of all sizes including daki covers, posters, etc.). You could also commission art from someone, although I would recommend avoiding anyone that gives you either no time estimate or gives you one that is longer than 2-4 weeks. Failing that you could give them a non-waifu related gift, although it might fit the mood better if the gift is waifu related. Really, it all depends on what the person you're getting the gift for says they'd be okay with receiving.

>how long do I have to sign up?

From the date of this thread's creation, sign-ups will be open for exactly one week. Beyond that, we anticipate one more week to organize everything and send out secret santa messages to all participants. That leaves approximately one month before Christmas for everyone to pick out their gifts and send them out. Even with all of this prep-work, late gifts still occasionally arrive, so please wait until early January to assume that you aren't receiving a gift and please contact the secret santa organizer in that event so we can try to get assurance that your gift was sent via package confirmation. As for whether or not you have to wait until Christmas day to “open” your present, that is entirely up to you.

>what if I don't receive a gift?

Although my experience has shown that /a/ secret santa events yielded very little dirtbags that never give any gifts (iirc the last one I saw had only 4 such events among over 120 participants), it isn't entirely an impossibility. At the very least, WonderRed-bro has agreed to do custom drawings for anyone that doesn't receive their gifts. Still, it must be said that the risk is still there, even if Christmas is about giving and not receiving.

You can send your emails for sign-ups, as well as any individual questions of concerns you'd prefer to remain secret, to Yuno-bro at 0damage@cock.li . Happy gifting, everyone!

Confirming that I'm on back-up just in case anybody's gift doesn't get through in time. I don't think it'll come to that, but I like there being a back-up just in case.

 No.48452

I'm on the fence about participating since I don't have a way to buy items online (prepaid credit cards have not worked for me online in the past, so I'm not taking a chance) and I'm uncertain if I want to take a risk of having the person I receive have what I plan on commissioning be on their "not acceptable" list. I realize there are options like having custom print gifts made in stores, but I don't want to take the chance of giving a possible lame gift. Plus, depending if what I'm commissioning is on the "not acceptable" list, then my price range will shift significantly. Any advice?

>>48452

The reason we ask for what gifts are acceptable and unacceptable is that this list will be shared with your secret santa. Perhaps if it makes you feel any better, we could encourage people to say whether or not they are okay with fan-art being in custom prints.

 No.48455

I dont own or moderate a board here, so what exactly does posting history reveal? There might be some things I've posted in the vent/advice/confession thread that I dont want anyone to see, so I'm a bit hesitant about participating.

 No.48456

>>48455

Its completely up to moderator descretion on what they look at. Its generally viewed by moderators a haram to actually look through peoples posts. Don't worry, nothing you wouldnt want to be read will be read. Just a quick scroll to see some pictures of your waifu/husbando will be sufficient information that you are legitimately them.

 No.48555

A couple of questions. First of all, let's say that my budget is 50$. Do I have to spend that much for the gift? What if I find the PERFECT gift for like five bucks?

Also, can lurkers who don't post much if at all join?

 No.48557

>>48555

Similar question, is the budget how much the item is worth or how much you payed for it? I can get some pretty expensive stuff for cheap from where I work due to my employee discount.

 No.48559

>>48555

Not them, but I imagine the solution would be find ways to fill up your budget if there's a big difference. Nothing says it has to be just one gift, it could be $50 worth of gifts.

File: 1446445266820.jpg (673.55 KB, 1024x1024, 1:1, 51176496_p3.jpg)

>>48555

If you are placed in a group where the budget is $50, then your goal is to spend ROUGHLY $50 INCLUDING shipping costs. Nobody is going to flip out if you spend $47 or $52 dollars since that is still pretty close. Like this person said >>48559 you can always find a way to fill the gap and give more than one gift, even if you have to resort to giving non-waifu related gifts.

>>48557

How much you paid, of course.

Whoops, forgot to answer your second question. We already addressed that in the OP

I'd love to allow for everyone that wants to participate, but I also understand that there are some people with a valid concern that we would get certain unpleasant people and/or groups that will just take their gifts and run.

Convince me that I shouldn't worry about giving out my address, since a PO box is way too expensive, and Amazon Locker doesn't exist in my state.

>>48674

Well there isn't really much I could say other than I won't be doing anything personal with the information and I and the person sending you a gift are the only people going to see it.

If you still have reservations about it you can always choose to opt for a digital present only such as a game, or a waifu commission artwork.

To everyone that signed up, we will be get to organizing and assigning your secret santas as soon as we can. I anticipate it shouldn't take any longer than a week, but please be patient with Yuno-bro as he also has to work on waifudome and his irl responsibilities. If you have any questions, comments or concerns you can email him and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. I look forward to gifting with you all!
