Day 5: Cosplaying
We were in the middle of a city in one of the Japanese colonies, currently trying to escape from some hired thugs that belonged to the target of our last job gone awry. We kept running into the thugs at every turn, and they seemed to be blocking any way of escaping.
>Which one of us do you think messed up this time?
Judging by their look, I think this is from a recent job where I left the target alive. I was hoping he'd learn his lesson after what we did, but I guess not. I'll chalk this one up for me.
>seems like they have the area surrounded. If we just went out the fun way we'd be out of here already.
I would rather not have the military be after us here if possible. Waiting won't do any good either, as these guys are relentless and thorough in their search. It's times like this I wish we had an airship of our own…
>I'm surprised they got in this far into the colony without being noticed. They don't seem like the stealthy sort. Still, it doesn't leave us with many options other than sneaking out undetected.
We continued to ponder how we could escape. Getting desperate. I looked around and saw a store nearby that was selling Japanese attire.
Wait I have an idea!
>What's tha-
She said, as I grabbing Jack-O by the hand and run to the store.
There's a festival coming up soon, where people will be dressing up. Perhaps we could use a disguise to sneak past them and get out of here.
>It's just like Halloween. I'M IN!
"Welcome! Please let us know if you need any help"
A man said, coming from the back of the store. A couple dressed in traditional Japanese clothing came in and bowed.
After bowing back, I said
Thank you. I hate to be rude, but we are in a bit of a hurry. Could we purchase 2 kimonos for us today?
"Of course! Being fast and efficient is how we do things here!"
The woman said energetically, as the couple took us to get ourselves fitted into our disguises. I was fitted into a black Gi and haori with a blue Hakama, a grey Kaku-obi, white tabi and sandals. Jack-O was fitted into a beautiful white kimono with a red flower pattern. It had a white obi, with a red Obiage behind it, and a black obijime. She didn't wear the tabi, but wore the sandals. Her hair was put into a neat bun, with a bit of her hair going down her right shoulder and a red flower in her hair
When I saw her, I was astounded at how beautiful she looked. She had a big smile on her face when she saw my reaction and saw herself in the mirror
>That was really fast. I was thinking this was going to be a bit uncomfortable at first, but it actually feels quite nice. It still feels a bit odd to wear this, but I really like it.
"I'm glad you like it!"
The woman said
You get used to it after a while. We won't be wearing them for long, just until we get ou-er home and get everything else ready.
I said, not wanting to worry the couple about our situation.
Oh! would we be able to get these as well?
I asked, pointing to the Conical hats and masks
"Of course. Now about the payment"
The man said, as he showed me the total cost
(HOLY SHIT THAT'S EXPENSIVE! Not like we have much of a choice though…)
I thought, as I payed for the outfits. We gathered our original clothing and stepped out of the store, putting our hat and masks on, and started to head our way out of the area. We were near the outskirts of the city when one of the thugs stopped us
"HEY! Have you seen these 2 assholes? They were seen last around this colony. Wait…isn't it too early for playing dress up for this festival?"
I did my best to pretend that I couldn't understand him. As he was getting more frustrated, Jack-O pointed over at an airship station nearby, trying to show him that's where we were supposedly are.
"That helps us a lot. They're trying to escape via airship! AFTER THEM!"
He said to his partners, as he headed towards that direction. Once they were out of sight, we hid in the forest and got back into our regular attire.
That…went better than I thought it would for one of my desperate plans.
>"When in doubt; improvise" is one of your usual sayings isn't it? Good thinking by the way. I hope our friends enjoy getting caught by security there, and the surprise pumpkin bomb as well"
She said with a sly grin
Good thinking on that end too.
I said, returning the grin
>I really liked wearing that kimono. You think we could stay and go to the festival?
She said with excitement
As nice as it would be to see you in your kimono again, perhaps next time, and at a different colony just to be safe. I promise.
>OK. I'll hold you to that promise.
She said pouting
Duly noted. I may not be a man of honor, but I do my best to keep my word to the people I care about.
We then headed on out of the colony and to our next destination.
