If you're interested in this kind of soviet architecture you should read up on russian constructivism and its later abandonment by marxist-leninist modernism. It's a cool story. In general, constructivist architects were pretty neat, utopian, but in practice their buildings tipically sucked as far as living conditions go. For example, one household building for about 100 bedrooms if im not mistaken, had only one bathroom. Derp.
It's also interesting to note the aesthetical similarities between marxist-leninist modernism and its nazi counterpart.
constructivism on the other hand had more of a futuristic feel to it. Pretty shitty, though, still. In any case it was the world vanguard in architecture at the time.
