The Soviet revisionists (either under Khrushchev, who played up Stalin's supposed "vanity," or under Gorbachev when all sorts of archival documents were made public) would have had ample opportunity to impugn Stalin with such information if it were real.
What *did* happen was that photographs of Stalin were airbrushed because he had pockmarks. This was a general Soviet activity though. Even Gorbachev's official portrait lacked his incredibly obvious "port-wine stain."
