Do Marxist-Leninists see the triumph of communism as an inevitable consequence of capitalism or is it simply the most desirable solution for the working class.

The idea is it becomes more and more likey as capitalism develops. Personally I think that's true but maybe capitalism developing will lead to other more dystopian contradiction resolutions, or maybe something like AIs or robots will come out of capitalism and become the driving force of earth society as opposed to humans and will fade into obscurity. I hope we can acheive communism before or at least alongside that though.

The whole "socialism or barbarism" thing is also echoed by MLs. Obviously it is totally possible for humanity to fail to abolish capitalism, in which case the world can easily descend into "barbarism" in the sense of nuclear annihilation, environmental catastrophe, etc.

As Engels noted, capitalism creates its own grave-diggers just as feudalism did. But no Marxist argues that it is literally impossible for communism *not* to triumph, as if the working-class was being divinely guided or something.
