What order should I play the Mega Man games if I'm just getting into it?

Keep playing classic until you finish 5, after that the games get a bit iffy, then switch to the X series. If you like that and want more then go on to the Zero/ZX games. If you want more classic play 9 or go back to 1.

If you want a break from platformers and want an adventure game give the Legends series a try, or if you want RPG's then you could play the Battle Network series.

I agree with above but you should also play 6 and 7. 6 is basically the same as 5 but still has good levels. 7 is underrated and is still fun. 8 is a piece of shit though.
