I'm 17, failing school, aspire to be a neet, and am generally apathetic towards all but my two best friends.

What do I think I have?
- ADD
- Borderline autism (because I'm a dumbass social fucktard, but that's unrelated)

What does my hippie-ass doctor think I have?
- Thyroid issues.*

*(Thyroid issues are the latest Dr. Oz shitty fad diagnosis for being tired a lot and unable to focus)

So of course, Doctor's orders, I'm taken off my concerta and Zoloft, and now I'm taking thyroid hormone supplements. Of course, my grades start tanking down the shitter as soon as I'm off the meds, I feel like absolute shit, and I've lost the motivation to do anything but browse 8chan all day and fap sometimes.

She's doubled the dosage of the thyroid meds three times (I'm taking 2 grain daily now) and they still don't do shit, so I'm fully convinced that this thyroid diagnosis is 100% bullshit.

Is there anyone in a similar situation? Maybe?

TL;DR - New doctor's a hippie. Blames my ADD on a gland in my neck. Ruins my life.

>I'm taking 2 grain daily now
thats a measurement for gunpowder, you mean miligrams
>aspire to be a neet,
go to a new doctor, get diagnosed with a serious disorder so you can get benefits once you turn 18

>you mean miligrams
It's measured in grains because fuck (see pic).

>get benefits once you turn 18

This is the optimal situation for sure

If they didn't do any actual bloodwork, tell your witch doctor to go fuck themselves and report them.

Get a new doctor. Your doctor is either a moron or a completely unscrupulous shill that gets paid for hawking this crap. Thyroid conditions are very easily diagnosed with bloodwork. All the hormones your thyroid make can be measured before determining if it needs to be treated. If you *did* get bloodwork done for it, I'd ask for a copy of the results and get a second opinion on it. And if they didn't, any doctor that fucking dumb is not responsible enough to be monitoring a combination like zoloft and concerta in the first place. You want to be careful about taking SSRIs and stimulants at the same time, serotonin storm is a concern. You're also supposed to wean off that shit not drop it cold turkey because it can cause withdrawal and serotonin syndrome. Hope you can get back on your meds before you get fucking "brain zaps". Your doctor should lose their fucking license.

And I want to follow up to say that the person you want seeing if you really have any thyroid issues is an endocrinologist, not some hokey psychiatrist that doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about.

 No.3452

>>3450
You'd be so fucking surprised- I was almost put on that stuff too! I asked about the psychiatrist "hey, I've read these interact, what can you say about that?"

I was told to read up on it myself.

I told the bitch "you're the fucking doctor, I'm not. I read all the shit I could, came up with that there's an interaction and you're telling me you don't fucking know if it's even significant?"

I got them to put me on a new one.

>serotonin syndrome

Meant to say SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome. I'm still waking up

 No.3456

>>3452
It's not terribly uncommon for SSRIs and ADHD meds to be prescribed together, but it needs to be done with caution and a lot of following up with a professional, and generally involves relatively low doses of both. The meds essentially amplify each other's effect in the brain and not everyone has the same threshold for what could cause serotonin syndrome.

Thankfully she wasn't batshit enough to quit me cold turkey.

I'll have to look at the bloodwork, but IIRC she never said anything about my actual thyroid levels. She went off about how I had low Vitamin D and that was apparently a sign of it, though. She also claims that the thyroid meds are almost useless unless I drink this smoothie blend she gives to literally all of her patients; basically, a shitload of spinach and some fruit blend't together.

Here's the doctor's site if anyone's interested. http://www.drdykema.com/

Yeah, but I mean, fuck, they should know about this and not just tell me to do THEIR fucking job, right?

You might want to give them a shit rating here once you've resolved this:

Of course, after things are said and done. Maybe you DO have thyroid issues. Just saying, it's not completely impossible. But then again…

Low vitamin D is pretty common. It could just as easily be from a bad diet or even just not going outside enough. You get a lot of your vitamin D from synthesizing cholesterol in your skin through sunshine. People that live in the arctic circle have to take supplements because they don't get enough sun in the year. Tons of people have low vitamin D for these very reasons. Odds are your doctor is a quack making a mountain out of a molehill over minute details in your bloodwork that are absolutely not pathological and then shilling fucking pig hormones on you as the treatment for literally all of your problems. Get a better doctor.

>>3458
Yeah that's pretty shitty.

Oh, hey, is this the same person?

"[…] Deborah Dykema, a Phoenix-based osteopathic physician […]"

from http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/09/25/oregon-water-fluoridation.aspx#_edn9

I don't know, but osteopaths don't do thyroid disease and much less mental health, do they?

>>3461
Actually, most vit. D is dietary. The RDI is lower than what you need, but it's not a replacement for getting enough sunlight. That, B6, Zinc, Magnesium and fish oil are supplements that make a difference for me, but that's just personal. I drink tons of milk so iron supps help too.

Again, that shit is more about diet. Don't eat a lot of cod/white fish? You probably don't get enough fat/fatty acids/vit. D. Which will make you lethargic. But it won't cause ADD, only exaggerate the symptoms.

I'm not a dietician, I'm not doctor, I'm just speaking from my view as a shill. I take these and they helped me. Avoid anything "oxide", the bioavailability is shit. Also, if you're not overweight/gaining, eating more of more different stuff is basically a good recepie for a better diet.

Also, you're 17. Your social skills will improve greatly as you go on. Maybe cut your losses in school, try to have fun with people instead?

Sorry about the fucking massive post, just hope I can be of help.

If you don't get enough nutrients from your diet, then you should change your diet. Supplements are generally a bad way of going about it. Supplements are more beneficial for people that have extraordinary nutritional needs because of a medical condition. But a healthy person can easily get what they need from food. Studies have shown actually that taking a multivitamin had a statistically significant increase in mortality among seniors, and it's believed to be because they're getting *too* many vitamins between their diet and their supplements. Also, you want fattier fish than cod. You want oily fish, like salmon, mackerel or sardines. Incidentally, fattier fish tend to be the most delicious, so it's win-win. In my opinion at least.

>change my diet
that would require me cooking or paying for better food

energy is just about nowhere near that

baby steps, my diet today is better than it was a year ago and I've gained lean body mass so I'm doing well. started incorporating stuff like dates/figs because I hate granny smith apples and such.
