Depression is an evolutionary mechanism that is triggered when you are overwhelmed with failure. If it triggers, you are psychologically incapable of trying to improve yourself or live your life and you will welcome death.

If a caveman failed to hunt for food, socialise with the tribe, or maintain the shelter, he would be a burden on his genes and the genes of his tribe. Everyone around him would see him as a downer sucking the life out of the tribe and they would leave him to die– he would want it.

If depression did not evolve, the autistic turboretard would live long enough to let a pack of tigers eat everyone because he couldn't be bothered to roll the rock in front of the cave.

We now live in an advanced society where the rules for what constitutes success are unreasonable and where the odds are stacked against us. Everything we need is provided for us, yet the tribe is constantly reminding you that you have overwhelmingly failed according to it's standards. You may be talented or have something to offer, but that doesn't mean you're being a good goyim.

Everyone now has a screen in their homes triggering their evolutionary killswitch, whether they like it or not. But you just have to deal with it and be yourself, the world is your oyster!

what a bunch of fucking bullshit, evolution is not deterministic like that

and nobody had long term depression in the stone age days because of superior health, Lifestyle, and diet

How could you be depressed? You're out all day in fresh air hunting wild animals with your bros during the day, eating raw animal flesh and sweet fruits of the land, in the evening you sit around and do whatever natural drugs are in the environment tripping together, during the night you're fucking your woman, and thats most of what there is to life

of course not every culture was the same and a lot of it was more ruthless but there was also more group cohesion because it was necessary to survive

also the average age numbers are wrong, most people lived to be 60-70 years as long as they could survive the first 20 years, a lot of infants and children died which drives down the average number

check out western price research into "wild" populations of humans, virtually everyone had perfect teeth, perfect facial structure, healthy and virile, no signs of mental disorders including no shit like schizophrenia etc

Sorry bud but that's a whole lotta bullshit, humans only lived until around 20's at the most, and not everything was perfect like you put it. Drug use was specific to a few areas, mostly asia, and the pain tolerance levels were so high, along with a fast paced lifestyle, that broken bones and injuries sometimes went unnoticed, causing long term agony and short lives. About mental illness, much of it was still around and served a specific evolutionary purpose, primarily things like bipolar disorder, ADHD, ASPD (sociopathy), Autism, things that were necessary to some sort of method of survival. What you're saying about teeth and bone structure is generally true.

Only healthy people survive among them, crippled kids are killed and idiots are banished. So ofcourse they are healthier.

lel bullshit, there is literally zero evidence of this

>. Drug use was specific to a few areas, mostly asia

Absolutely factually wrong, this shit grows everywhere. Cannabis and various ergots can literally grow everywhere and they do. Study any native population and you will find almost all of them use something to get high

I wouldn't be so quick to call conjecture when it forms the basis of your original post. They have traced the genetic roots of certain mental illnesses, and coupled with historical records and fossils, have theorized that they did in fact exist in our ancestors and didn't just start cropping up during the peak of civilization. There is a vast amount of evidence to prove that humans only lives to their 20's as indicated by bone structure and tribal organization, as well as how we bred. Not to mention over the course of record able history there was still a much lower life expectancy, now imagine how much lower that must have been outside this period? This corresponds with the studies mentioned earlier. And while the drugs may have grown everywhere, and yes you're right they did, there is no evidence showing they were cultivated on a mass scale and became socially/culturally common outside of Asia and the middle east. These became popular in Europe and beyond as commerce and tribal relations begin to prosper, but only did so then.

That's kind of OP's point. Those were the "rules for what constitutes success," and if you met them, you were probably at ease. If you did not, you experienced angst from your shortcomings in order to prevent you from wasting energy on unattainable goals. Sustained failure, including ostracism, equaled death. More group cohesion is great, unless that group decides they don't like you.

Noice

 No.5668

Actually, one of the guys in the group I go to has some of the things I wish I had the most- a job and a girlfriend.

He's fulfilling his societal function, so there's no "reason" for him to be depressed, evolutionarily.

I somehow seem happier or at least more emotional than him. I haven't even attempted suicide, he has. I seriously think he might be just, yknow, mentally ill. Sick somehow.

OP is a pretty cool guy, I like your theory. Thankfully, we'll either continue scientific advancements into trans-humanism or kill ourselves before evolution can progress any further, so I can stay alive.

Fucking flawless defense, bro.

 No.8549

The AVERAGE life expectancy might have been around 25, but that does not mean most people only lived to that age, only that people were much more likely to die in their childhood. If one person lives to 50 and another dies as a baby, their AVERAGE lifespan is precisely 25. People who made it out of their childhood had a good chance of living into their sixties or seventies, or even further.
