>>6224Okay, so because the medications/treatments didn't work for your disorders, that means that they won't work for any disorder?
That is like saying just because zertec doesn't help with doesn't with stomach aches, that means it is completely ineffective. I didn't like the medication I was put on either, and the psychotherapy failed after 2 years, but that doesn't mean I think these disorders can be treated with mere mindsets and encouragement.
Another thing is that when it comes to mental disorders, what works for one person may not work at all for another. I've experienced this on a personal and an extra-personal level. Psychology is still a very young field compared to other fields which is why it is so hit or miss in its success.
I agree with
>>6233that the only way to recover is through your own will, but what about those who are suffering from depression to the point where they have no will? To where they see no 'greener grass on the other side?' What about those mad with delusions to the point where they see everyone else in need of treatment, not them? Therapy isn't a super evil bad thing but nor is it a be-all and end-all cure of cures; it is only therapy to help you realize where your problems are and help you fix them. But, in the end, it is always up to you to try and fix them.
Me? Like I said before, I know I am defective and I know I will never comfortably live in touch with current society as it has been proven time and time again. To me there is no more obvious answer other than the fact that I am not meant to be with it, as such, I cast myself out. Better me be alone than drag everyone down to my level.
tl;dr: a therapist/diagnosis can help clear up confusion and give you outside insight on where your problems lie, but it is you who must make the decisions. Medication may work for some while it may not work for others. There is no definite answer here as it all comes down to the individual level.
