Should I just take meds already? I've been seriously depressed for five years now. I would take meds in a heartbeat but I hear of side effects that end up killing your dick, sometimes even permanently.

What do?

use natural alternatives. i.e. cannabis (yes it's probably illegal where you are and yeah it has SOME side effects but seriously, it's effective and leaves no permanent damage. Just make sure to vaporize it (or use a bong, but preferably vape) and not smoke w/ tobacco like most idiots)

This

Start taking some supplements Vitamin D, Magnesium, maybe B12 and start getting some sun (unless you already do) And cannabis may help you unless you are prone to anxiety.

Except it can turn you into a schizophrenic.
Completely harmless :3

I've been on ssri's for a little over a year. I've tried a few different yet similar meds. They haven't really helped, and I get painfull stomach acid stuff every day, and occasionally extremely painful writhing on the floor stomach pain.

On the other hand, my friend says meds really help his bf.

So it might be worth trying for a few months to see if you improve. But damn withdrawal sucks. I tried to stop and got horrible dizziness and felt like I was gonna pass out untill I caved and went back on them.

And doctors downplay the side effects and say you don't get withdrawal.

but it's better to give it a shot as opposed to doing nothing.

People say the sexual dysfunction is worth it as they still have a better quality of life. I haven't had a real problem with that part though.

Try reading the fucking sticky over at >>>/fit/

Doing the starting strength program by Rippetoe, eating more meat and drinking milk will make you feel so much better. Add fruits and veggies and you'll improve even more.

Get vitamin D, fishoil and ZMA. Protein powder (make your own gainer) if you struggle to eat.

Fuck taking drugs, exercise should be prescribed by doctors, both in psychiatry and in general.

Just doing pushups in the beginning is enough. Do them until you can't do any more (until "failure"). Rest three minutes, then start another. Do five sets of pushups that way. Do this three times a week max, but preferably at least twice.

I'm sorry for oppressing you by healthshaming you. Please, be beautiful the way you are and enjoy your side effects.

 No.7483

Only take the pills as a complete last resort.

Look into self-help and motivational books and speakers. Take supplements. Exercise. Get a routine.

I was on a few pills for many years, and while I really never had any side-effects on them or getting off, I was extremely lucky. Still on one of them though but planning to get off of it. The side-effects of these drugs more often that not actually cause the symptoms they're supposed to treat, not to mention how it kills your body physically. ONLY as a last resort but even then I still can't fully recommend them.

i know both better nutrition and fitness and some medicines can be a lot of help to a lot of people

i would try it all but im too scared to do anything at all. now that i think about it, the anxiety is probably the most crippling problem

>use natural alternatives

Naturalistic fallacy. "Natural" drugs can fuck you up just the same.

Wake up early in the morning and go for a jog. Feels good to be out and about and doing something while everybody else is still asleep.

I recommend the 7 Minute app for exercise, I'm a fat depressed NEET and it left me sweating far more than going on my customary walk

Fallacy fallacy fallacy.

What I said is entirely correct. If you're having a localized Internet blackout and Google isn't working for you, I could give you examples of how "natural" drugs can fuck you up, and hence why that is terrible advice to give.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I tried it, stuck to it, and it worked.

The depression never goes away, but I can get past it and live again.
