When a user views a page, but does not post, is the user's IP address stored in the page view log? Or does 8ch simply record that a page view happened?
Second, related question. Imagine anon1 is browsing 8ch over a VPN that uses shared IPs. anon2 is also browsing over the same VPN with the same shared IP. The following sequence of events then happens:
anon2 breaks the law, and his IP is subsequently banned for violating the global rule.
anon1 tries to post a legal topic to a legal board, and sees that his IP was banned for illegal activity.
anon1 disconnects from the VPN. Now anon1's IP is his "real" IP.
The page anon1 is viewing auto-refreshes while anon1 is not connected to his VPN, meaning that a pageview happened while anon1 was connected from his "real" IP.
anon1 disconnects from 8ch.
My question is: given that the board refreshed while anon1 was connected from his "real" IP, and given that anon1 was previously connected using a shared IP that broke the global rule, will anon1's "real" IP be associated in any way with the rule violation? Does 8ch "connect the dots" between IPs? Practically speaking, if a law-enforcement agency later requested data pertaining to the rule violation, would anon1's "real" IP be handed over?
Another way of putting it: if I connect over a VPN and receive a shared IP but I use the VPN inconsistently, and another person using the same VPN and the same shared IP does something stupid, is 8ch going to point the finger at me when law enforcement comes knocking?
Last question, relates to my previous questions: does 8ch store sessions? For example, can this happen:
anon connects to 8ch from IP address 1
session 1 starts with connection from IP address 1, action recorded in "session 1" object
anon views board A from IP 1, action is recorded in session 1
anon views board B from IP 1, action recorded in session 1
anon changes IP from 1 to 2, action recorded in session 1
anon posts to board B from IP 2, action recorded in session 1
anon disconnects from 8ch, action recorded in session 1
session 1 ends with terminate signal from IP 2, action recorded in session 1
session 1 stored in database for x amount of time meaning all this data is linked together in a series of related db entries
hopefully hotwheels can answer if he's not too busy. I read the user privacy pdf, but it doesn't appear to explicitly prohibit any of the scenarios I mentioned here.
