Turning off top boards by default may just be the best thing to happen to 8chan. Why? Because no longer do we need to keep up this mentality that we are all one big chan with a culture that needs to be protected from outside forces.

Think of 8chan as a solar system with many planets. These planets can form alliances, and can "link up" with each other and make their own seperate cultures.

/intl/ may have got what was coming to them, but they also sortof got what they wanted in spirit. All they have to do is link up their freedom boards in the announement bar, have the other boards link back, and bam they can have their own dream culture. They could have just done all this from the beginning, but the top board system served as an illusion to so many people that they people only noticed a board when it got on the list.

The need to proxy to get to the top is no longer needed hopefully. hopefully now maybe if we are lucky most people wont turn top boards back on and will actually search out boards to post on.

intl still got outed as faggots for setting up anti spam countermeasures when their board is nothing but shitposting to begin with.

to be fair, that was their admin, not them. It was still absolutely hilarious though.

to be fair that wasnt in response to the raid, it was just set at 100 weeks ago

i agree about the proxy thing, but i still think your wrong, i do not believe that we should fragment the community further, this was one of the things moot did so right in the early days of 4chan, keep the community in a few large groups rather than in many small ones.

Almost without fail, when I saw people mention the top 25 they were either perpetuating whatever drama was current at the time or trying to think of ways to cheat the system/how others might be cheating. Ideally, this change could cause the userbase's attention to turn back to something more productive.

Although fuck if I know for sure, I'm just a regular contentposter.

"fragmenting" as you call it has strengths though, and it's not like 4chan always acted like a big community. /a/ and /co/ hated each other. /a/ and /v/ love-hated each other. /g/ hated /v/. Almost every board hated /b/.

On 8chan while manyof the rivalries have cooled down (like I don't see any more /a/ v /co/) you got /pol/ vs /leftypol/ , /tech/ once again hates /v/, /intl/ vs /int/, /v/ vs /vvv/, /christian/ vs /atheism/, etc etc. we are united on some things, but not everything, and some boards on here like /furry/ have their own disconnected culture.

Splitting may also encourage more people to come, like 4channers who didn't like how 8chan was as a whole, and it will allow people who want gated "chan culture" preserving boards to have them, because nobody care much about what boards are on top anymore. In the mean time, redditors can have their own boards.

I agree.

I was suggesting this since I got here and was reinforced in my opinion as I got to know what it took to maintain top 25.

Cheers anon. The future is infinity. No 25 limit. No post limit. Only infinity.

100% agree, i mean i've lost count of how many times i've advocated for removing the top 25 from the top bar

yeah its kind of good actually

if you want to post about a certain topic you just search the boardlist for that topic and then post on the one you prefer

I don't think he should he should have removed b,n, meta and operate from the top bar though and the text next to the images (don't remember the exact word right now)

but I guess you can get to /b/ from the frontpage

maybe this way the complete newfags get filtered through /b/ first before fagging up other boards

I disagree, I liked seeing them there. But I understand your perspective.
