The travelers' mission is to fix the loop so we can be all relocated to the real Earth. Right now the planet is in a Ice Age that has lasted at least 60000 years or so, but inside the Cradle, time runs differently, you know, like we were traveling space-time inside the Event Horizon. When the 40 years pass, we will be left into the real Earth, just when the Ice Age is over to begin anew
