01[03:59] <Tryptamine566> h-hey hotwheels?

01[04:00] <Tryptamine566> it's kind of embarassing, but could I ask you a favor? .__.

[04:07] <copypaste> hello

[04:07] <copypaste> didn't you email me about /ebola/

01[04:07] <Tryptamine566> y-yeah

[04:07] <copypaste> i gave it to a "Joe A"

[04:07] <copypaste> do you know who that is

01[04:07] <Tryptamine566> never heard of him

[04:07] <copypaste> he's been active but hasn't updated the announcement or any settings

[04:07] <copypaste> hmm

[04:07] <copypaste> ill show you the claim mail

[04:08] <copypaste> Hey, I'd like to claim /ebola/ due to it's inactivity. I've been going to /ebola/ since it's creation and I love the board idea itself but feel like it's slowly dying. It's a big part of 8chan "culture" and I don't like to watch it slowly waste into nothing. The idea of people worshiping Ebola-chan is hilarious (but of course we all love Ebola-chan) to me, it can become even bigger if the

[04:08] <copypaste> board itself had an admin who gave it more of a push. The board itself is a fountain of original content such as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfLI-oLYASw, a visual novel (which I took part in), and plenty of other things. I just want what's best for the board and I want people to love Ebola-Chan!

01[04:08] <Tryptamine566> he started posting cure-chan stuff everywhere after I posted on the board that I wasn't the board owner anymore, and deleted all the banners ;__;

[04:08] <copypaste> ;_;

[04:09] <copypaste> do you have backups of the banners?

01[04:09] <Tryptamine566> yeah, luckily I was just autistic enough to save everything

[04:10] <copypaste> i don't normally do this but

[04:10] <copypaste> Thanks for your interest in this board. Kindly find the username and password below. You can login at https://8ch.net/mod.php.

01[04:10] <Tryptamine566> thank you, you're the best man

01[04:11] <Tryptamine566> I'll be more active now, that fucking gave me a scare

[04:11] <copypaste> sorry, from his email i thought it was okay and you didn't want it anymore.

[04:11] <copypaste> he was a troll though

[04:11] <copypaste> lol

01[04:12] <Tryptamine566> I got so wrapped up in moderating /pol/ that I didn't realize how long it had been since I checked in on /ebola/

01[04:12] <Tryptamine566> lol

[04:12] <copypaste> ebola chan is dying ;_;

>Come on cripplekike, I'd love to hear your comment on this thread while we have your attention.

It happened in February.

A board was claimed, the claimant ruined the board (messed up the CSS, et cetera).

It turned out he owned /cure/ which had some feud with /ebola/ so he took advantage of the claim system to ruin the other board.

Tryptamine (/ebola/ creator) brought it to my attention, I gave him back his board.

The failure of this and the later /fringe/ turnover (where the claimant deleted everything) caused claims policy to shift, where original board owners have more precedence; and the volunteers they assign are PM'd first to prevent similar destruction of communities.

I also came up with an applications policy for abandoned communities.

Make of it what you will. If you want to defend destroying communities so one person gets some jollies out of it your opinion doesn't really matter to me. Claim system's main job is protecting vulnerable communities when their board creator's disappear, and we learned from previous failures.

Once you take on the mandate of protecting the "culture" of boards instead of letting the users manage themselves, you've set 8chan down a long and painful slippery slope.

How far will you go to protect and coddle 8chan's communities? You're clearly willing to replace board owners who haven't broken any site rules, violating your own principles in the process. What's next, are you going to remove 'dangerous' board owners and volunteers who moderate in ways you don't like? Or maybe you'll have your global volunteers start interfering with the management of boards too?

Or maybe you'll begin stepping in for situations like those described here >>83257 ? Either way, it bodes ill for the site as a whole.

When I came to 8chan, I expected boards to be allowed to manage themselves. The administration should be impartial, and to not interfere with the politics of individual boards. Honestly, Hotwheels should ignore the drama and only focus on the site's technical issues. This extends to the claims system too: he should only step in if e.g. a spambot is trying to claim 5000 boards at once or something. Otherwise, if Hotwheels keeps getting involved in the affairs of 8chan's boards like this, I don't see how we're all that much different than any other imageboard anymore.

The difference lies in the dishonesty. Other imageboards don't rely on dishonest ideologies touting a fake moral superiority to other sites. Other imageboards don't have admins that try to hide (poorly) from scrutiny by using cat's paws. Other imageboards in general, are a lot less slimey and treacherous than 8chan and the cripplekike.

00a7d9 No.83301

The difference between these situations are which ones were in the context of the claims system and which ones were not, as in who is responsible. The board owner is responsible if his own board goes to shit, we're responsible if a previously active board dies instantly due to a reassignment.

>>stalking users and being generally insane

>>driving away 10,000 posts per day

>>not destroying a board (/pol/) according to crappypaste

/pol/ was not reassigned through the claims system.

>>no burger mondays banning approximately 40% of a board according to an admittedly fixed "vote"

>>not only is this not destroying a board to freddit, he decides to enable this further

/int/ was not reassigned through the claims system. I created it as a default board, then gave it away.

Whether or not I think those people destroyed their communities is irrelevant, we're discussing the claims system (board owner disappearance handling), not board owner behavior in general.

>>83260

>Once you take on the mandate of protecting the "culture" of boards instead of letting the users manage themselves, you've set 8chan down a long and painful slippery slope.

As I wrote, the point of the claims system is to protect boards that are vulnerable because they have no owner, not protect every board.

>>83296

While the wording on https://8ch.net/claim.html was originally quite dishonest due to us internally not knowing which way to procede, after the wording itself was brought to our attention on /operate/ I forced the issue in #8chan-staff and changed it to read:

>Most boards are given away at a first come first serve basis, but large boards with long histories may wait for multiple applications before a deicison is made.

Which is honest and exactly how we decide. Perhaps I could detail the process further (first, we check if a board has any volunteers, and PM them asking if they want promotions; failing that, we put a stickied announcement on the board itself, so that people browsing the board rather than autists who lurk the claims page will also get a chance to apply; and then, finally, given the applications emails, especially if the board is fuckhuge, carefully decide), but that seems like a lot to write in a short preamble on the claims page which is mostly used for claiming dead 5-post boards where we just give it to whoever wants it without bureaucracy.

"Users" are leaving, hebrew. That's how they're managing when faced with hotpocketry. For every anon who tries to create another board there's 1000 who leave. Succeeding with a new board is another uphill battle.

As of now, 8chan has no system to restrain fucktard BOs. The imageboard is losing its street cred daily from disappointed emigrants. They didn't leave because of HW. They've left because of shit-stains like you who still insist on running the asylum.

I've said for a long time now that if Hotwheels actually wants his site to have a reputation for free speech, he should just remove the ability for local mods to ban or delete users, or see their post histories. Just have global mods enforce the global rule, (at most you could also have an opt-in system where boards can have spambots removed by the globals). In practice, 8chan is currently the most rulecucked imageboard in existence, and this is the source of all of the site's drama because it goes against how 8chan was advertised to its current userbase. Clearly the system is broken, though the solution to these problems is incredibly simple were it to be implemented. He should also focus exclusively on the site's technical issues and remove himself from the drama entirely.

Unfortunately I no longer think Freddit is capable of the foresight needed to make good decisions for 8chan.

> it goes against how 8chan was advertised to its current userbase

This!

Also, how 8chan is advertised is becoming irrelevant now. Every day, there are more exiled anons out there in the wild who are saying (organic viral marketing) that the imageboard is not honoring its promises of free speech. Reddit AMAs will not compensate.

GIVING FREE REIGN TO BOs WAS A MISTAKE.

We all know what kind of person wants to run a board. 5% saints who tend to burn out, 45% shills who can get paid for the effort and 50% autists who get obsessive-compulsive sooner than later.

THEY HAVE TO BE RESTRAINED HOTWHEELS! WHY CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAD IT!

Make this place 'free for anons and authoritarian for BOs. This is the best option.

Other option is to create random, snap-elections where anons with certain number of posts can "vote" out their management. It's a tricky system that needs to be fortified against manipulation. Feel free to offer suggestions.
