 No.2105

2010s: Probably Gojira

 No.2114

Wintersun, of course.

 No.2120

All of this has to be b8

>slayer

Their first two albums were great. Third was pretty good. After that, shit

>Cannibal Corpse

Eaten back to life was pretty good, but over all they're not that great

>Necrophagist

Great band, but not the band of the decade

>>2114
>wintercum
Hang yourself.

 No.2132

I'd say Venom was far more influential of an 80's band than Slayer.

>I'd say Venom was far more influential of an 80's band than Slayer.

This. Slayer's influence is hugely exaggerated

 No.2141

Just one band? It's staggeringly difficult impossible to list exactly one band, but we can safely say Pantera singlehandedly defined the '90s for better or worse.

 No.2156

>>2141
>Pantera singlehandedly defined the '90s for better or worse.

For worse. They fell into the chuga-chuga style that the Deftones had been popularizing and exerted huge influence over all the emerging mallcore bands.

I get a lot of shit for this but I think grunge played a role in it

 No.2158

>>2156
You don't think it as hardcore, like where the "core" came from?

 No.2159

>>2156
>>2158
Pantera gave inspiration for many a Nu-Metal and Metalcore band, but they're hardly alone. "Grunge" ceased to be relevant by 1996.

Hip-Hop, Funk Metal and Groove Metal all played their respective part in forging Nu-Metal. That genre can be boiled down to the following bands either directly responsible for its genesis or influential-but-not-necessarily-Nu-Metal: Pantera, Prong, Helmet, '90s Sepultura/Soulfly, Mr. Bungle, Living Colour, Fishbone, Deftones, Body Count, 24-7 Spyz, Mordred, RATM, L.A.P.D., Korn, Faith No More, White Zombie, Infectious Grooves, Mushroomhead, Biohazard, Powerman 5000, Slipknot and several others who escape me.

If you really wanna stretch it, you can include Ripper Owens-era Judas Priest.

 No.2160

>>2159
We can also include Skinlab (who suck heavily) and Machine Head (who don't suck as much, but are still lame).

 No.2163

>>2156
I completely agree, if anything, grunge played a bigger role, even bigger than Pantera.

 No.2171

Heh heh Wintercum.

 No.2172

>80s
>not Metallica
They're not my favorite, but come on dude. I love Slayer, but they were not the definitive metal band of the 80s.

Also,
>90s
>not Pantera

 No.2210

>>2172
Slayer influenced as many Extreme Metal bands as Venom did, but in terms of sales, Metallica outsold every Metal band.

I say they're neck and neck; Metallica for sales, Slayer for influence.

 No.2215

>1980s: Slayer

slayer are shit

what about deep wound

 No.2216

>>2103
Let's be honest, the 80s was Metallica. Though their legacy is tarnished there's no denying their importance. Not the best, but clearly the definitive, that's just how it is.

 No.2221

>>2210
I can agree with this.

Let's not forget this:
1970s: Black Sabbath

As great as Megadeth was, they weren't the band of the 80s nor 90s. And they blow asshole now.

 No.2247

>>2210
>Slayer
>not even Exodus at least

No, SWLAYER!!!!111111 wrote a little bit of great early material, and rode off the coat tails of their own initial talent to sell boring ass albums to teenage edgemasters.

I would consider slayer (or any big 4 band) to be waaaay less important than Testament or Exodus, sales be damned. The Big 4 are just normalfag bands of choice

WHY

 No.3814

>>3810
Because Metallica was the band of the 80s more so than Maiden . It's not about favorites, or bands that were better, it's about bands that defined that decade.

 No.3815

>>3814
This. Iron Maiden may have been very influential, but they weren't the single most influential band of that decade.

And while we're at it, Cronos argued Venom influenced more bands than Maiden did. He might have a point considering all Extreme Metal attests to this.

 No.3834

>>3815
I'd have to agree with Cronos on that point. Also, I think that Venom is way better than Iron Maiden, as much as I like Maiden, it just doesn't have the riffs and solos that grab you by the balls and makes you headbang, like Venom does.
