What metal songs does /metal/ listen to when they're depressed?

I usually listen to Crowbar.

I'm not being dramatic when I say this song was at one point the only reason I didn't off myself

I'm rarely ever depressed. If by some chance I do happen to be, I just get a beer and listen to fun as shit grindcore like this. It's impossible to be depressed while having your face torn off at max volume.

>>4032

That's absolutely gay.

The OP asked a question. I answered it. I think listening to actual depressing music when depressed is counterproductive.

So as to stop this thread from becoming a "pathetic little I has a sad" music thread, here's some shit-crushing doom.

i can't listen to metal when depressed anymore because it doesn't sound sad to me, it sounds angry, beautiful, intense.

I used to listen to KSE in like 6th-8th grade when i got depressed, but now i just can't stand their shitty "i care about you" lyrics (which are prevalent in most of the songs of Daylight Dies and End of a Heartache).

>especially this one

Seriously though, black metal gives me a strong feeling of catharsis when I'm down.

Black Metal gets it:

The northern winds carried the vision

of a time yet to be

when the cold breath of evil once ascends from it's throne

To join me as one with the night

in the light of moon

to let me inhale the mist of my sorrows

Let them flow through my veins

and awaken the malice the convulsion to be reborn

like Fenris unbound from its chains

So that I could forever

wander in search for his morbid heart

and leave behind just the footsteps in the snow.

Towards a gate between life

and oneness with darkness on a path made

of crushed joyless frozen flowers

I will never look behind me

the desolate dark awaits

only once reaching out

to crush the memory of life

Wandering into the endless depths

of the dying horizon

to disappear

in the raging funeral snowfall

In obscurity

encircled by the coiling shapes in ice

with eyes staring into the silent infinity where eternity awaits.

Where eternity awaits.

I kind of relate to the Perfect Gentleman/Mr. Madman too, because I consider myself 'fallen' in a way. I had a lot of potential when I was younger but stuff like depression and other mental issues basically reduced me to my current existence as a depressed NEET.

Guy who originally posted MI here. They have some stuff going on that I enjoy, but get real. It very easily qualifies as teenage edge. I invite everybody who can't see why to check out the shit posted in the grind thread. But only if you can bear GrindGoddess' obnoxious tripfaggotry.

>Because it wasn't made in someone's basement?

Just try any of their later stuff, I dare you. If you can't hear it you're fucking deaf.

>There is a good amount of variety in their discrography, all things considered.

They might vary it up from album to album, but on each there's a lot of filler to be found.

>poor excuse for grind

Considering how far MI are from grind, this is a completely valid statement.

All that said, Adam Jarvis is a fucking crazy drummer.

Okay, you got me. You're not deaf. You just don't know jackshit about music production. The Killing Gods is their most disgustingly overproduced record so far. It has pretty much every bit of life squished out of it. But since you're just going to call me a faggot anyway, try this:

>Listen to Cross to Bear (which I think is one of the best tracks they've ever made, by the way)

>Listen to any other track on the album

>Take note of the difference in how the kick drum sounds

Better yet, listen to this song and compare. Way more organic sounding production with much more edge to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERDFPDioBS4

>they're not grind because I said they're not

>>4238

Seriously, get a fucking grip you pussies. I hate jumping in genre arguments, but I guess It's too late now. No, I don't even understand what's there to argue about in the first place, as anyone with half a brain and knowledge of grindcore should easily be able to tell MI is not grindcore. Sure, they have some grind influences but that's just about it.

Vid related is grindcore, and also a good example of a healthy production.

>>2849 is even grindier grindcore, and more like what you should be thinking about when you read the word "grindcore".

You fucking real dude? You just tried shoving terrorizer in people's faces, and they have just about as much death metal influence as misery index.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gutwlzAIiyk

cuz so far, it's got this:

down-tuned guitars

blast beats

growled vocals

which im pretty sure are main components of grindcore

Where did you get this shitty definition of grindcore from, wikipedia? Regardless, that EP is grindy as hell (pretty gud btw, I haven't heard it before). So are plenty of other Misery Index tracks. Guess what has nothing to do with grindcore at all? Their latest. Y'all can keep posting earlier material, but that won't change that fact. They have been straying further away from their roots, and mind you, I'm not saying that is necessarily a bad thing, just because I don't like it. Heirs to Thievery had a fair bit of grinding going on, a lot more than Traitors. But then came The Killing Gods. The only thing grindy about it is that Adam Jarvis just can't not play blastbeats all over the fucking place.
