Speedcore, mathcore, vikingcore, etc.

And then they go in the completely opposite direction referring to deathcore as death metal.

I have tried to educate them on the proper terminology and the distinction between genres, but nothing works. My hypothesis is that the genres are so hated, that fans if to try to bring the other genres onto the same level with the addition of core in the genres name. What are your thoughts on this?

I'm asking how and why viking metal and other genres have had the metal part of the title replaced with core. The definition is basically that of Viking metal.

They were decent up through With Oden on Our Side. When With Oden on Our side started to sell in huge numbers, that's what prompted them to really start watering their music down

And even before then they were still petty compared to actually good bands like Temnozor of Falkenbach

I'm sad to say Tyr's new album actually kinda sucks. I saw them live a year or two ago and all of their new shit was really disappointing, but the few old songs they played were great

Amon Amarth can be pretty good but the thing is they aren't even viking metal. They're just melodeath with viking based lyrics. Real viking metal bands that I like are Falkenbach (which I don't see mentioned enough), Thyrfing (old), and Mithotyn, and they sound nothing like Amon Amarth. People just think anything with vikings in it is viking metal.
