Alright faggots, oldfag here. I've heard every riff, every variation on themes, and motifs that extend into eternity. I've dropped out of the scene for some years out of boredom and have stopped paying attention to every band on myspace and bandcamp from disappointment.

Now as far as I'm concerned, Burzum killed metal. Varg's outright rejection of traditional death metal forms inspired Mayhem, Darkthrone, Emperor, and all those edgy Satan faggots. Everyone since has been either a copycat of a previous band, or has been riding gimmicks to success (by adding traditional instruments, like a flute, or technical death metal, which is nothing but masturbation imo).

So, in the last, say, 10 years, has anything interesting been produced? Spare me your 80's thrash revival (with a twist!) I want something creative.

Embedded is something no band can replicate with gimmicks, and sums up what I'm talking about.

>muh no creative music being produced

This is cancer. I'm not saying I don't like creativity, or that I'm not bothered by bands doing pretty much exactly the same as somebody before them. But I'm not going to chastise good music just because it's not completely reinventing the wheel. I for one want to listen to good music done well, which is already creativity enough, even if it's similar to something else already existing.

>riding gimmicks to success is faggotry

This on the other hand I completely agree with.

Anyway, I'll bite. Here's some shit from the last 10 years (but mostly from 2014) I thought were interesting. Just off the top of my head:

>NOÛS - ἀηδής

>Pretty much anything by Terra Tenebrosa

>Doctor Livingstone - Contemptus Saeculi

>Dragged Into Sunlight - Widowmaker

>Plebeian Grandstand - Lowgazers

>Gnaw Their Tongues & Alkerdeel - Dyodyo Asema

>Emptiness - Nothing But The whole

>Zillah - Not All Of Me Shall Die / Man Son of Swine

>Merkabah - Moloch

>Wyrdforge - Her Wings Unfold War

>Noneuclid - Metatheosis

>Nero Di Marte - Derivae

>Dephosphorus - Ravenous Solemnity

>Dødheimsgard - A Umbra Omega

I don't know what was going through vargs mind but he absolutely hit the pinnacle of metal. Yeah, it hasn't been surpassed yet. The last 20 years have been a rehashing of old sound.

I mean, it seems like it's hard to find really original new music, but it's out there, and you often find it when you aren't even looking. Here's a band I found recently, you might find it interesting if you're into Burzum, Panopticon. Black metal with bluegrass influences. Some parts of this album almost border on prog. It's a long album, but a really rewarding listen. I don't know if I've ever heard black metal that sounds uplifting and triumphant before listening to this.

Find one of those shitty music reviewers on Youtube. Listen to all the albums he reviews (excluding stuff that isn't in the style you're interested in). It's likely that you find something that interests you.

I really enjoyed this album but I can't help but agree with this guy. It sounds really screamoy at times.

At first I wanted to call it "WITTR faggot metal wannabe crap" but then As I Lay Dying started to play out of fucking nowhere at the two minute mark.

Hey oldfag it recently occured to me that you might like Midnight Odyssey, atmospheric black metal band from Australia. His two full lengths are a little thick at two hours each, but his demo Firmament is perfect.

I like WITTR but their most of their fanbase is completely insufferable. I did see one of their shows a couple of years back and I was pleasantly surprised at the complete absence of hipster fags
