Can't remember anything that hasn't been said in this thread, but I agree with some.
Maybe metalcore fans and shit, saying how those bands masterfully integrate heaviness and melody, which is bullshit. Every damned song is just (arguably) heavy verses + melodic gay choruses.

Yeah, I'd say most Metallica fans don't even listen to much Metal - otherwise they wouldn't be listening to Metallica, except old school Metallica maybe.

I kind of like Tool, but its fans are really annoying shits. They treat Tool like a larger than life enlightening band, almost like a cult.

Never noticed it. The only thing I've found annoying about some "fans" is when they say "man, they are great, I love their acoustic songs, too bad they have to scream and ruin the others". Unless you're talking about the general hate about Opeth going psychedelic rock, but I hate their new stuff too. It just doesn't feel like Opeth anymore.
